UK Charts: Ys Memoire Narrowly Makes The Top 40 In Another Quiet Week

The latest UK charts are in and, with only one new release to speak of, the list is much as you might expect.

Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana was the only new entry to the chart this week, just sneaking into the top 40 to land in 38th in its debut week (with a 53%/47% console split for PS5 and Switch, respectively).

Other than that, it's business as usual. EA Sports FC 25 takes the gold, and Switch favourites like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Party Jamboree and Nintendo Switch Sports round out the top 10. Interestingly, It Takes Two has also reappeared out of nowhere to land in 19th — a hangover from "we should play more games together" New Year's resolutions, perhaps.

Here's a look at this week's full top 40, with platform breakdowns for all of the titles available on other consoles as well as the Switch:

What a come back, the game is now consistently in the top 10 and has become an evergreen title (at least in European countries, for some reason it seems to be less successful in the US)

The Horizon franchise has sold over 32 million copies. I'm not sure this spin off got remotely close to a 10th of those people bothering with it.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say indiana jones bombed sales wise. Even when it came out on launch the sales were unimpressive and then the sales dropped off the face of the earth. Really feels like the game didn't do well at all commercially.

I'm not shocked.

That was an easy call that it would flop as I don't know if going first person makes sense in a genre known for 3rd person, like literally the best selling in that genre are stuff like Tomb Raider, Uncharted etc and they just felt, fuck it, lets fuck it all up lol

I just didn't see this title doing big numbers and was already on the side of "nope" after its first trailer.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
It's a shame, because Ys Memoire was a lot of fun. Played through it on the Switch recently and enjoyed it. Though at it's heart, it's still a PSP game.

You say this as if Horizon is supposed to be as big as Star Wars or Harry Potter.

You and they tell me whats Lego Horizon supposed to be then.
It isn't supposed to sell well on Switch because according to people its "not their target". Apparently it isn't supposed to surparss big oldass Lego games titles because Horizon is not big enough, even though people keep regurgitating Horizon franchise millions units sold.
So...is this even supposed to sell or what?

It's random as hell that's what it is,

A Lego game about another game lol

If it was a Lego Mario or Sonic game it would be understandable but Lego Horizon seems like it was just something they wanted to do for whatever reason because all the other Lego Game tie-ins come from franchises with a long history of Movies & TV shows already done . Lego Fortnite isn't even a standalone game like this.

Nobody in their right mind thinks Horizon is a bigger franchise than Harry potter or starwars. Get real.

I don't think this is a fair excuse for not being at top 40 to be honest.

But yeah, get real.

You can search for those who think that since the announcement.
This thread was funny at the time but it’s even better now.

Edit:
Lego Horizon doing great will be the funniest story of the year.

Because it will make Angry_Megalodon Angry_Megalodon seethe in ways you'll think aren't possible.

Of course not but you replied to somebody saying

"You say this as if Horizon is supposed to be as big as Star Wars or Harry Potter."

With "You can search for those who think that"

I dont believe you. Nobody sane would ever say horizon is as big as Star wars or Harry potter.

There was a general feeling of being offended when someone posted that Horizon Lego idea makes no sense as no one asked for it.
I still believe they could go for God of War Lego, at least people on my country knows it (still a well know franchise in Brazil). Horizon Lego is just as stupid as the people who believe in it.

This is what you get when you reply someone you are not even in the conversation with.

This is what started:

Two Lego games at top 40 and none of them are Horizon.

I never said Horizon franchise is bigger than Star Wars or Harry Potter.
I said that there are 2 LEGO games in top 40 and Horizon LEGO is not one of them. Lets remove those two lego games out of conversation for a moment and what left are 38 games for Horizon LEGO to beat.

Can't figure out how you missed such an important point.

I didn’t miss anything. I had read the entire thread. Maybe you don't realise how your conversation actually makes it seem like you were suggesting people were saying it was bigger than starwars and Harry potter, but whatever.

Said there are bigger based on the Horizon franchise sales. I never made this claim, someone did first.

Feel free to use the search tool my friend.

GoW lego would make even less sense since the GoW audience are not kids. Your average switch/lego user has had even less exposure to that franchise. Horizon Lego was fine for a collab though Astrobot would make far more sense. I don't think people expected November Lego Horizon to be charting in January anyway. I certainly hope SIE didn't.

Indiana Jones sales are going to be primarily on Steam. As we can see with the platform breakdown with the other games (that have it anyway), Xbox ain't exactly killing in physical sales. And those games are not on Game Pass while Indy is. Not saying you are wrong about Indy sales, but don't think this chart is going to show that either way.

Xbox gamers do not buy games anymore (yes it’s stupid I know)

They should have released it day one on PS5, game would have sold at least 100x times more

Lego Fortnite isn't even a standalone game like this.

The Horizon games have sold unbelievably well, because they don't get the kind of run on the internet as some other games, people assume "no one wants them" but people struggle to suggest many original single player IP created since 2017 that has sold better.

People also seem clouded to what Sony's overall strategy is despite the success of TLOUP1 remake. We're going to see a range of success among Sony's strategy, but the direction should become really clear.

In April we have TLOU Season 2 on HBO. We're going to see whether this forces TLOU P1 and TLOU P2 back onto the charts. We're also going to see Until Dawn's movie release in April and probably onto streaming this summer, and we'll see how it does next Halloween season and if a sequel comes out. Given that Until Dawn comes out in April and we still don't have a trailer for it, I'm thinking that things aren't going well with that, but that's part of the business too.

All of that is to say they planned on having a Horizon TV show to bolster the sales of these games. We've seen that with Cyberpunk, Witcher, Fallout, and Last of Us. The strategy works. If a Horizon movie can push a few million more units of software at higher prices, let's say 4-5 million @ 40 dollars... You're looking at 160-200 million in revenue, largely operating profit simply because of a movie. If the movie turns into a big success, now you're looking at a franchise for Sony Pictures and even more sales for Horizon 3 and Horizon Online. With the online games you could even drop the trilogy of games to 10 dollars a piece for a total of 30 dollars, sell maybe 10 million units a piece, and that's still 300 million in revenue...

The first Hunger Games movie grossed 700 million worldwide at the box office. The sequel made 865 million and the third and fourth films did 755 and 653 million respectively. These movies had a collective budget of 493 million and based on budget rules break even would come at 1.23 billion. These movies made 2.973 billion...

The money that Sony can potentially make from their own IP with their own game tie-ins is unbelievable and goes a long way to mitigating risk and costs of game development. It's Sony using their unique position as a TV and Film studio in a way most other game companies can't really do. If Horizon becomes a major film franchise, even Lego Horizon will get a boost.

You might personally not like Horizon (I didn't love the first game and didn't play the sequel), but it's clear the franchise has massive potential for Sony and Herman is more than correct to build out from it. Again, I don't know much about the second game, but after the trilogy (presumably), I think the franchise will become less about Aloy as Sony looks to make their IP more evergreen, which is why Jin Sakai is not the protagonist of Ghost of Yotei. They want franchise that can keep selling for decades. Other than Kratos, Sony has never really had a character who could do that and really only Nintendo has long term success using the same characters in multiple reworked storylines.

Remasters make sense. Remakes make sense. Movies and TV make sense.

Yes I know the games sold well but that was on the strength of the games themselves & not the fact that it's a loved franchise that's able to sell big merchandise .

It's still in the building process & I guess this crossover was to reach a new fanbase .

Or they expected the tv show would happen this year and were timing the games release but it didn't work out.

When the show was canceled they shifted gears to a movie. Slowed by the writer/actor strike and then ultimately canceled due to issues with the showrunner, a movie is a pivot to hit the market quicker.

It's so interesting people look at the success of Fallout the tv series which even made Fallout 76 popular and they still don't see the reason why Sony would branch out as much as possible with Horizon before the media comes out.

They announced the project for shareholders. They don't even have a director or writer on board let alone a cast. They want shareholders to see TLOU Season 2 as a success and get bullish on Horizon and Ghost of Tsushima. I think they're doing Ghost of Tsushima anime because the movie isn't coming along fast enough. Again, they want to hit while the iron is hot. Yotei comes out this year and the anime will probably come out this year as well. Maybe next year. If the anime and the sequel are successful it will also help the movie.

Amazon's God of War still has no Kratos. Again, these projects are taking too long, but also got greenlit right around the pandemic/strikes. God of War also just got a new showrunner.

So... did Ys X chart at all? I played the demo and found what I had played pretty...generic? But at least it's better than Ys IX.

I think most understand but this stupid culture war that people have going some just want to prove that anything with a female that isn't deemed hot is a failure even if it's a random Lego Game .

I never in my life seen so many people on NeoGaf worried about a Lego game.

A search for LEGO threads show threads with few replies besides the Horizon threads

Has any game that's been day 1 on game pass sold anything of note in the last few years?

A lot of horizon fanboys think so because of "20 mil" sales

Not me , I'm bored of this franchise

I grow bored or uninterested in franchises too. No one forces you to buy it though. HZD outsold all the Killzone games combined. Objectively, it's crazy to think they wouldn't prioritize this franchise.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Not surprised. Game's very, very good but I don't see why it needs a remake. Played the vanilla Oath in Felghana last year and it's still amazing.

The first person perspective made 0 sense with an icon like indiana jones especially if they're going to pay for harrison fords likeness. I feel like the developer just did it that way because they refuse to adapt and go outside their comfort zone which is sad because a third person indiana jones game just makes more sense too me personally.

I still think third person would have been better as well, but yeah, it was still a great game. Steam charts don't seem to show a lot of folks playing regardless. Hard to say really how well it sold.

I really feel like they should've delayed it so that they had the ps5 launch simultaneously with the xbox/steam launch. I feel like a good portion of ps5 users would've drove sales and given the game a boost. Delaying the ps5 release kills its momentum. I still think ps5 users will help bump the sales up a good bit though.

Rofl at Mortal Kombat 11 outselling Mortal Kombat 1, like how bad is your game when the prior version charts higher?
It's cheaper & has a higher number next to the name that probably has more to do with it than how good or bad the games are .

I own both & like One better
