Confectionery companies have agreed to phase out many king-size chocolate bars as part of the campaign against obesity.

Production of the larger versions of Mars, Snickers, Crunchie and Boost bars, weighing up to 100g (3.5oz), will cease next year.

Manufacturers are either scrapping or repackaging king-size bars
The concession is part of the food and drinks industry's efforts to persuade the Government that tough new laws on issues such as labelling, advertising to children and school vending machines are unnecessary.

However, Nestle has refused to follow the lead of its rivals. King-size Lion bars, Yorkies, Kit Kats and Rolos will remain on the shelves.

A Nestle spokesman said king-size products made up only a small part of its market and were consumed mainly by "young men with active lifestyles". What other companies did was up to them, he added.

Critics said the moves represented only a small concession and the Government should ban advertising of unhealthy foods aimed at children and remove vending machines from schools.

Charlie Powell, the campaign co-ordinator at the food and farming campaigning organisation Sustain, said: "These measure are very half-hearted and cynical.

"These companies will not be able to claim to be acting in a socially responsible way until they stop advertising and marketing these unhealthy foods to children."

England has really funky candy that I don't understand with the weirdest names imaginable.

Anyways, not a bad thing, kids are too fat and since their parents can't say no to them looks like the corporations will have to start to.

I miss the big kitkat. It was my favorite for awhile.

Actually most products when they change their size dramatically are my favorite. I just had to buy those mini snapples and mini cans of soda. I know...I'm weird.

two bars are still much larger and much more expensive. The reason Nestle arent stopping is probably because the large KitKat does quite well. People actually only buy certain chocolates large bars over others.

It's a good move, instinct is to buy the larger one for cheaper cause you are getting a "good deal"

God, Fat people are making me angry as I get older. Losing weight is not hard. I went to a comic/game convention the other day (never ever ever again) and this little kid in line had already been doomed by his parents, fat as a little house.

Getting kids off crap foods is never going to really solve the problem though, you need to make them exercise some how. I say they should make every kid join the scouts like they did in the 60's.

Hate to say it, but I'd say the increased time kids have spent with game consoles the last 15 years has contributed to the hefty (heh) increase in obesity.

Like I care though...God bless Nestle, and fuck the haters.

Yeah, getting a hole in your gut from the rocket a member of Islamic Jihad fired at you really sheds the pounds

Im all for thining these kids out, but not for getting them killed, i need them to live long successful tax paying lives so i can claim my state pension, lets not fix this situation by stopping me getting free money when i hit 65.
