They will only sell a decent amount in Japan, but what do I know. The Majesco GBA videos have sold a decent amount, and those are expensive as well.

Amazing. Are Sony retarded? I mean that, is the management run by special ed kids?

W T F

Well, the price can be lowered... I still want to see the price of UMD Video in the U.S. before making a call on this issue.

Don't know why everyone is saying they're retarded. 4000yen sounds great as long as they get animation and keep the price at 4000yen for animation too. :D

I go to get a drink out of the fridge, and before I come back Panajev's already spinning! Like clockwork!

It's coming out on DVD you know...

Yes I know. I was planning on buying both the DVD and UMD release.

Right.

Some of us can afford both you know...

I am not spinning: I would say that the price is good and give reasons why. I implicitly admitted that the current price is not good by saying "at least they can be lowered". Sometimes you should learn to take what I say as just that and stop seeing three or four meanings behind it... be careful though as it might be too hard, I do not want you to hurt yourself trying ;).

Am I supposed to be impressed?

I'm just saying. I'm sick of people going "it's coming out on DVD! why waste your money on a UMD! just rip it!" etc. If you think it's too expensive great. What's the point of trying to desuade people who want to get a UMD just for kicks? I sure as hell can't play the Advent Children DVD on my PSP, nor do I want to rip and encode an inferior version to take up extra space on my memory stick. Shrug.

Isn't that what GAF is all about?

What do you keep on that memory stick normally?

I guess so! :lol

Music and anime episodes. To make things clear, I don't think the UMD pricing is remotely value for money for buying UMD stuff normally at all. But I doubt anyone here was planning on ever buying UMDs OVER the DVDs anyway, so since we're all probably getting 1-2 UMD movies max, 4000yen doesn't sound that bad at all. Could have been 6800yen! :D

Advent Children will look amazing on the PSP though, and seriously to be completely honest, I'm kinda hoping they throw in a Crisis Core preview or even playable demo in it to seal the deal for those of us planning to get it.

I predict the Advent Children UMD to be 7,800 yen, BTW. Just because Square knows that most of the people who want to buy it are retarded enough to pay that much. Doesn't hurt that Japanese sonsumers are fond of getting railed up the ass when it comes to media pricing.

Am I bitter? Nah...

Maybe not 7800, but definitely more than 4000 yen. As someone pointed out, these UMD prices are on parity with DVD prices in Japan. There's no reason to expect that animation won't be "on parity" as well.

My prediction is 5800 for the AC UMD.

May be a special edition at 6800, and a standard version at 4800.

Well, I understand that, though. That's why I was pointing this out -- I think Square will go the extra mile to rape the masses of idiots here who pay no regard to whether or not they might be getting ripped off when making media purchases.

I think the DVD will be overpriced too, FWIW.

...and you just know it's gonna street a few weeks early on UMD before the DVD. So everyone will run out and buy it on UMD just to see it and then buy it again on DVD for the convinence and extras :P

I'm telling you all, if Square Enix packs a Crisis Core trailer and/or playable demo in the UMD movie, they can charge 7800yen and it'll STILL sell a shitload. With me in line to get my ass poked too! :lol

Who would watch movies on a 4-inch screen? :lol

Ridiculous prices aside, this statement is so tired. Who would watch movies on a gorgeous 4.3-inch screen? Hm. I wonder. Oh yeah, I just remembered. People who aren't at home to watch movies on their 63 inch screens. Yeah, see, that's the whole thing about portables, trippin'! It's fascinating! You know, you use them... in a portable way! Amazing, that! It's like one of the secrets of the world, using a portable... portably.

Anyway, on topic. God damn those prices are dumb. On the upside, that's a cool Hellboy boxart. :|

HELLZ YEAH, SONY ZUZK BALLS YO!

Anyway, I wont get many movies at that price (maybe a select few, classic movies if they are released on UMD), hopefully they will lower it soon.

Otherwise it will be good ol´in out, in out for me.
As in DVD in DVD-Drive, Rip (out) and in on the Memstick. ;)

As I said, I'll pick em' up only when they're 9.99. Then it becomes an impulse buy and I don't feel bad getting them, especially being the absurd movie buff I am.

UMDs in the US are 19.99-28.95. And some DVDs sites already have the UMDs listed for 15.95, so at that price all you need is a good sale for it to come down to 9.99.

Looks like I'll be owning only one UMD for a loooong time. BTW IS the process of ripping a DVD movie you own and encoding to a mem stick difficult? I know shit about that kinda thing.....

The UMDs are more than the DVDs...gg Sony. gfg.

If Mastiff can call their executives Woofs.... I think we should call Sony executives Corky Burkes.

I guess the special olympics really are in Japan this year.

it's really easy using 3GPP (even i can do it!)

some of those movies aren't even shot in 16:9..so my question is are they reformatted as 16:9 or will the be black bars on those movies?
