Hey guys,

So, I'll keep it short. I have a sister, she's 18, graduating now and applying to Universities in Europe. She's from Bulgaria so there's no one really there to help her find Unis and applications...
Hell, half of the exams they want as an entry don't even exist there. Way to go, 3rd world countries.

ANYWAY, she kind of wanted to follow in my footsteps and come to the UK, but honestly, I wouldn't recommend it to any kid, let alone my own sister. Far too expensive and not worth that debt, when you have so many good Universities for free in Europe. The tricky part is, she wants to study psychology and in English. The English part is tricky, to be precise. I really wanted her to go to Sweden - from what I've seen and heard it's one of the best places to be in Europe, but apparently none of their BA programmes are in English. Or that's what her teachers have told her.

Can any of you guys advise on this? I'm totally out of the loop and haven't looked into Unis in the past 8 years at all. I thought there's plenty of students and parents here who've done extensive research on the matter :)

The debt here (UK) really not too bad. Yes it's high, but the repayment is spread thin, and doesn't start until you're earning 21k+, and the UK is very high up there in terms of affording you with prestigious and internationally recognised degree (long as you go to a good University.)

And not that I'd explicitly advocate exploiting our already strained education system, but I'm fairly sure that if you leave the country after your studies, then yes you still owe SFE money, but realistically they don't have any real means of making you do so.

In general there are few Bachelor programs in English in Sweden (most Master's are in English though). Is there any special subject she wants to study?

Also we apply centrally to Swedish university and the deadlines are in April (at least for Swedish students).

Old thread about studying in Germany that might help: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1191281

Good luck, I think you'll be hard pressed to find undergraduate level studies in English outside of UK/Ire.

Yeahhh.. thanks. She studied German for 5 years and decided she never wants to hear it again... :(

She wants to go for Psychology. I could only find masters degrees on that... social studies would work too.

No, it's not too bad. But compare it to 100% free. All I'm saying is, the education is equally good, really depends where you go and what you're studying, but I wouldn't say that education in the UK is somehow superior in any way to mainland Europe, yet it costs £9k more.

Here's how I searched:

I started here: http://www.studyineurope.eu/in-english
You have to sign up to look at the programmes though, but it gives a rough idea where psychology studies in english are available.

It seems that Bachelor's degree studies in English that are free for EU citizens are only available in Ireland, so here: http://www.educationinireland.com/en/
Master's programmes are available in English elsewhere too

If you want to check the available programmes in Sweden you can go to: https://studyinsweden.se/
Finland: http://www.studyinfinland.fi
Denmark: http://studyindenmark.dk/
Germany: https://www.study-in.de/en/index.php
The Netherlands: https://www.studyinholland.nl/
and so on, just google "study in X" and you're golden.
