The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
Went to FL last year, we'll be in CA in 3 weeks(staying at resort in Palm Springs, thinking about driving to the park) and thinking about going to the Hollywood amusement park.... are there any differences or are all the rides the same?

Now we didn't get to the Island of Adventure side of the FL park(ran out of time, hot as shit, etc.).. is that also in the Hollywood Park?

You went during the middle of the summer from what it sounds like. That was a poor decision of timing on your part with taking in the weather factor. You should have gone during May. I live about an hour and a half from there so I know what you are talking about. If this is the only timeframe available Cali is gonna be a hotspot as well, plus... its Southern California.

Neither trip is/was actually scheduled around going the amusement park... both times it's a while we happen to be in the area kinda thing.

We were there for an extended weekend around the July 4th time table(BTW the July 4th fireworks display at Univ. Stu in Fl rocked)... we didn't go specifically to go to the amusement park, we actually went as part of a cruise package to Nassau, we just figured we would hit the amusement park while we were in town for a few days.

As for the Cali trip we're going to go gambling at the local casinos first, so anything else we do is extra.

Universal Hollywood is more a working studio than a theme park like Florida...

There are rides, but not that many. They have a citywalk, which I think is a hell of a lot better than the FL one.

FL has IoA, CA doesnt.

FL has a Jaws ride, CA has a jaws section that is part of their tram tour.

CA has a better Mummy ride, I think....

LIke other people said, you are better off going to Disneyland for the 50th anniversary celebration or going to Magic Mountain.

The tram ride is pretty cool. I used to love going on that when i was a kid. Seeing King Kong, Jaws, the Psycho house. But i don't know if its worth the price of admission. Like someone else mentioned, its not really about rides at Universal Hollywood. All you really have is Back to the Future and E.T./Mummy. The rest are more kiddy stuff. You do also have the Universal Citiwalk right there too, if thats your thing.

btw did you guys know you can pay extra and get "front of the line" passes at these theme parks? I wish i would have known that last time i went. Im definately paying the extra next time i go to Magic Mountain. I can go on Viper ten times in a row!

Dont even bother going to Universal Studios in Cali. BIIIIIIG waste of money. Hit up Magic Mountain or Knotts instead.

Never been to Universal Florida, but Universal Hollywood is cool for one day... maybe every few years. Unless you really like the live shows or a particular ride, you can see most or all of it in a single day.

The last time I went was pretty decent, but the time before was brutal -- molten hot and we baked for about a half-hour (or more) on the Jurassic Park ride when it broke down. Never mind the food prices (bad at any theme park) seem especially inflated there. So last time we went down, we paid about $10 more to eat at an Italian restaurant on the Citywalk than we would have paid for a couple of orders of "Jurassic pre-formed chicken" and a couple of drinks.

They've added a bit of stuff since I last went, but I think the tram tour will always be one of the best features, a few of the shows are well worth watching, and Back to the Future will always be dreadfully overrated.

Speaking of Disney's 50th anniversary, On Sunday I went to Disneyland not knowing its was the actual day that they park opened 50 years ago and its was packed at the park, the wait for space mountain was 1 hour and 40 minutes the parkwas open till midnight so i did get to ride most of the rides and they were giving away free mickey ears that had the date on the back and they were giving away cupcakes all day so it was pretty cool.
