Unreal Tournament > All UT sequels

Y'know, the original Unreal Tournament is still pretty damn good by today's standards. It also stomps the crap out of all the UT sequels, especially music-wise. When I listen to the music from the other games, I find myself asking "What happened?". The music is just that good! I think I also enjoy the level designs more as well. I'd say the highspeed train is my favorite map.

Yes, the music matched so well the pacing of the game...I'm still amazed that almost every MP FPS doesn't have any music

Same here, and that's something I've always loved about the UT games. Music should be an option for all FPS games, although I suppose you could always just have MP3s running in the background anyway. :)

Unreal Championship 2 has been the most fun Unreal game for me since the original UT.

I agree.

UT was so damn innovative at the time. From level design, to weapons, to game type, even the aesthetics.
I could actually play it for hours by myself or have the fun increase ten fold by playing in a LAN.
None of the other UT games have caught my attention like UT did. Well that and it was free with my Voodoo 3 3000 card. :D

Yeah, the yearly update thing definitely turned me off. It let them skimp on any really innovative new features in favor of churning out the same thing every year. I spent hours upon hours with the original, and it was incredibly fresh at the time. Probably still is now.

When are they churning out the same thing every year? It was several years between UT and UT2003. And UT2004 was a huge improvement over UT2003.

Yeah, what "yearly updates"?

There was UT2K3, which, honestly, was a fucking abomination. (UT2K3 was also released in 2002, btw) UT2K4 was released ~year and a half later and was actually good (great).

I'm not sure I've ever played a game as much as I have the original UT. I kept coming back to it for years, playing it for entire weekends at a time. It was glorious.

I was pumped when I first saw UT2k3, but the physics killed it.

I like UT2k4 a lot, but I still feel like the sense of speed and controls were a little tighter in the original.

Music? Doesn't everyone just play their own mix?

It's a shame that you don't have that option for console FPS like Halo 2 :(
