I already have a hard drive, video card and moniter, cd drive, keyboard mouse, and case, so I am just getting a Mother board, cpu, ram and power supply. Are these going to be sufficient for a while, or should I save up more money and get a better computer:

ENERMAX Noisetaker Series 470W Power Supply, ATX 12V V1.3
$79

AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 512KB L2 Cache 64-bit Processor - Retail
$172

Should I change anything, or am I good to go?

Edit: I can't go over $600 on this upgrade.

Yeah, good question, Slo. Personally, unless you have a pressing need to upgrade right away, I'd wait, save up some more money, and go with a PCI express motherboard & better graphics card. That way you're not wanting to upgrade again for quite a while.

Oh, and it's "yea or nay", not "yay or nay". :)

I have an athlon 1 ghz, and my comp freezes up all the time (its not software, i just formatted, Its not heat, I just bought a new heat sink and fan designed for up to athlon xp 3200+) I also have a radeon 9500 non pro 128 mb, and 512 mb sdram.

Steve's advice is good as always, but I think that is a very worthwhile upgrade from what you've got. You probably won't be able to use that XP fan on your A64.

I don't see much point in going up to Athlon 64 and 1 gig of RAM if you're going to continue using that graphics card. Get a Radeon 9800 Pro at least.....

Start looking on hardware forums for AMD 64 3200+ combo some people have them and it comes with Thermaltake Venus HSF, and Asus Deluxe K8T800 motherboard. I know someone who just sold me mine for 250 bucks plus shipping(he still has two more if you want me to ask him about one for ya i will). They are from AMD and are OEM packaged special with Far Cry and a AMD T-Shirt.

thats the best you can do right now. Then get the Ram and a ATI 9800 that should cost you about that much.
