FORT STEWART, Ga. - Army soldiers are being issued new fatigues with easy-to-use Velcro openings and a redesigned camouflage pattern that can help conceal them as they move rapidly from desert to forest to city in places like Baghdad.

"It might give you the extra second you need, save your life maybe," Sgt. Marcio Soares said Tuesday after trying on the new all-in-one camouflage uniform that is the first major redesign in Army fatigues since 1983.

Soares' unit, the Georgia National Guard's 48th Infantry Brigade, is the first to be issued the new fatigues as part of a $3.4 billion Army-wide makeover being phased in over the next three years.

The uniform will replace the standard forest camouflage — green, brown and black — and the desert camouflage — tan, brown and grey — now used by U.S. troops in Iraq (news - web sites).

I'm kinda gonna miss the old ones... :(

What kinda fashion designer designs army uniforms anyway? Is it like a failed chef who ends up working at an elementary school slopping mashed potatos on peoples' plates? Also, do you think he's offended when people get blood on his design?

The uniform was revealed a year or so ago, but I hadn't read about the velco name and rank patches. That's crrrrazy

With all due respect to the troops, but considering the policies of the commander in chief, wouldn't a design something more like this be appropriate?

Have you seen the new air force uniforms they are testing. If someday we learn how to fly without machines we will be invisible.

In addition, whoever points out that Godwin's law applies to the thread is also considered to have "lost" the battle, as it is considered poor form to invoke the law explicitly.
YOU ARE LOSE

EDIT: DRAT

So it's more suitable for a varying task... but doesn't that just mean in pure forest or pure desert situations it won't fit in as well?

The Nazi uniforms were bad ass. Say what you will but they were slick. The black and the trench coats rocked. Wasn't old Hugo Boss the designer for them?

Bah this is just a stop gap till the real shit gets released that can change patterns based on surroundsing predator style. There also is a japanese scientist i read about in Popular Science a few years ago he had made a material that lets light pass through it. Basically making the wearer transparent/translucent theres a video of it somewhere!

Something's missing there. The light may pass through the material, but the person.... no....

Just to clarify the magic clothes. Ther is a camera directly behind the person and a projector in front and the clothes are made of the same thing a movie screen is. It is not any kind of camo. It was simply an idea that might be used for things like heads up displays.
