It's interesting that it's now in the governor's hands. If this happened in any state and it went to the governor and he rejected it, there would be public outcry about it and claims of him downloading massive pornography. I'd hate to see the slander for his next campaign.

Also targeted are content providers, defined as any company that "creates, collects, acquires or organizes electronic data" for profit. Any content provider that hosts material deemed harmful to minors by the Utah attorney general must rate it or face third-degree felony charges.

A letter that NetCoalition sent to the state Senate earlier this week said the wording is so vague it could affect search engines, e-mail providers and Web hosting companies. "A search engine that links to a Web site in Utah might be required...to 'properly rate' the Web site," the letter said.

The result of this being that people and companies from the other 49 states will be dragged to federal court because Utah legislators are idiots.

Ah well... the law only has to be shot down once, at least.

I hope this passes and I hope they go balls to the walls with it. For two reasons.

1. I am really wanting social conseravtism to continued unfettered until they choke on their own hubirs. Eventually social conservatives will do something so shocking, so against the core of basic American principles that people will actaully begin to think in order to avoid a situation like that from occuring again in their lifetimes.

2. I want to see how the major hotel chains and the big money players fall into this. Porn is a muti-billion dollar industry and no one and I mean NO ONE is going to let free money slip out of their hands. I want to see how the interests of the corporate state will fare against the dominion of the people's state.

Still it's a tall order and from the article the ISP have to still build the functionality to block porn the user has the option of clicking the "bar smut" button on IE but, the protocal would have to be in place in the system. This would the software required to do this would bankrupt any Mom and Pop shops in Utah and the costs would be passed on to all the users of an ISP meaning you and I would have to pay more for ISP service unless the ISP decided not to do business in Utah.
