Varsapura - 31 Minutes Gameplay Demo | HoYoverse’s newest flagship title

HoYoverse joins the long list of Chinese gacha/f2p developers attempting to take a piece of that GTA pie it seems.

GTA Just because there's some driving sections?? Its a supernatural RPG with Persona and Control elements in it. There's zero correlation to GTA, Yakuza or any similar urban open world.

A massive open world game set in a city inspired by a real one. Saying there's zero correlation to GTA is just playing dumb.

It's a big open city and you drive cars in it, GTA popularized that core concept.

I'd argue Yakuza has even less correlation to GTA than this game, because those games take place in a closed-off small section (or two, or five depending on the game) of a city and you don't drive cars as a main mechanic in those games.

It's like anime Control with Genshin combat and an open world you can drive around in. I'll probably play it for a bit but I don't need another gacha game in my life

Honestly I'm kinda disappointed in the gameplay. Seems too boring for a modern day HoYo game. I know they can do better than that. Also I don't like the uncanny valley character models, but it's still early, so there's a good chance they polish those.

I watched that whole thing and I was just waiting for the 'hook' that never actually came. Very derivative for a company that's pushed the envelope a lot in the past.

Shame that due to China regulations, there will be no blood or body horror or anything interesting despite the darker theme.

*edit*

This will 100% be censored for the release version. It's a classic HoYoVerse move to have these kind of designs in the Alpha/Beta and then change them on release. Happened for Genshin Impact, ZZZ, and Star Rail.

This is where the writing should be carrying. Creatives can work within boundaries to still make things feel dark and disturbing in theme regardless of the lack of blood or body horror.

It might be an odd example to bring up, but Courage the Cowardly Dog, a kid's show, left people of all ages highly disturbed at some of the episodes and themes presented throughout.

Honestly it makes me think of Control, but also yeah I dunno. Looks cool, plus who doesn't want to fight with an umbrella and PAPERWORK

The direct reference to Persona 3 threw me, someone's obviously a fan on that dev team

If you actually watched all the way to the end, you'll realize this is a pitch video and they are using it to recruit developers. It appears to be using Unreal Engine which is something new for Mihoyo, all their existing titles use Unity so they need to dev talent who can work with this engine

The video card used for the demo is RTX 4090, this doesn't seem like something which is being targeted for mobile. It might end up being console/PC only which would also be a big change for Mihoyo, on the same level as Stellar Blade was for Nikke developer Shift Up

The MC's run animation is a placeholder, anyone who's played Genshin recognizes it. The MC's outfit in the opening sequence is a reference to the female MC (Stelle) outfit in HSR lmao

These chinese and korean devs really dont understand what makes GTA special, its not driving a car in an open world.

Same with that other absolute ass ripoff game that has 0 soul.

Looks pretty good IMO, kinda like a mix between Control and GTA LA Noire. Not sure about the character designs though, as they look a bit uncanny in that art style, especially when coupled with the realistic UE5 aesthetics.

If one of them can at least make their game as fun as True Crime, Sleeping Dogs, or Saints Row (pre-5), that's good enough for me.

So there's a single post on their official Twitter account with the trailer in the OP. In the same post they also mentioned that all gameplay footage was captured on an RTX 4090.

SEAL - Shadow Emergency Alliance

Internal Directive 047-EX

All footage was captured from live operational environments (codename: RTX4090). Should you detect any anomalies or interferences, report immediately through secure channels.

Upon entering Varsapura, the protagonist's appearance shifts to match each viewer's preferences. The origin of this parapsychological effect remains unknown.

Remain calm. Avoid excessive speculation and maintain composure to prevent Cognosea disruption events. SEAL will continue full-spectrum monitoring.

SEAL has authorized the release of only the English-voice over version at this time, to maintain operational continuity while all available personnel remain assigned to core research initiatives. Additional language modules are in development and will be deployed once system stability is confirmed.

There's something creepy about the main characters (more than the average hot anime babe with camera angles made to ogle at them, Ananta looks rad), Idk why. But wow Mihoyo will take over the world churning out AAA level stuff like this in every genre. Theme is cool outside that, control x gta x fringe or something. Maybe it's just the difference of the faux photo real GTA stuff and the animeness, Idk, I just skimmed the video so this refers to the part right after they leave the police car and go on foot towards the end parts mostly, I didn't notice it skimming the combat stuff at the start...

It was interesting enough to keep watching. Definitely Control/Evil Within vibes in that office. Idk about that city because it looks more like eye candy than a city coming to life.
