The Vectrex has vanished from the market over four decades ago, but a new group intends to revive this revered console in miniature form.

The original system included its own 9" vertically-oriented vector CRT monitor. This type of monitor is no longer being produced, so the Vectrex Mini will use an AMOLED panel to simulate the distinctive look of the original. it will also have HDMI output, and a Micro SD card slot so you can load additional games.

A Kickstarter campaign is planned for next month.

this needs to have an very high resolution to do the original screen justice. because for an authentic look you'll need a CRT filter that simulates the glow of it.

You're right. One of their greatest challenges will be to reproduce the distinctive glow of the Vectrex's monitor.

I'd like to see what this device looks like in person. I don't believe that seeing photos or videos on the Internet would properly convey how closely they achieved the proper vector effect.

No vector display, no buy.
A pixel based display will not do the Vectrex justice. I get that compact vectorscopes would be tough to source, but if you're going to resurrect this system, you should really deliver on its singular unique feature.

They seem to have forgotten that Vectrex games were utter shit. There isn't a single one worth playing today, the only thing worth preserving is the vector monitor (which is the one thing they can't do).

No overlays required ?

Early 80s was a wild ride Atari, inteli and coleco. Everyone wanted a piece this was a rare beast in the sea of gaming. Not needing a TV was a big deal. I remember a friend used to bring it to sleep overs and parties: it got a lot of play time.
