Very cool: first fan-made Matrix Online video (with permission from Monolith)

Hmmm...is this supposed to be good, anyway? I've heard, uh, negative things from beta players...mostly regarding technical issues, but still.

Well I can't say anything... But I expect the world to be very much surprised by this game when it comes out... In a good way.

It's amazing to me how alot of a game's success is due to timing. The timing on this game is awful (the theme, the genre, the release date).

(I actually fell asleep watching the fight scene in this video)

I wish I was about 12-13 right now... I'd have all the time to play games in the world... then I could invest some time into a MMO game like this... <Sigh>

If I were the developer I wouldn't have approved that trailer. Nothing really interesting being shown off there....it makes the game look kind of boring. Two guys fighting in a training dojo is not interesting. I want to see how the real-world stuff is going to work, and whether or not there will be extensive gunplay.
Oh ok, I'll just break the NDA and get thrown out of the beta.
Well, it's not like you have to tell everybody on the forum your Matrix Online characters and account ID. At this point some positive impressions would be the only thing that will get people interested. The game itself just seems like a bad idea, and thus far footage seems pretty bland....if somebody could tell us where the fun is that would be awesome ;)

The video started out well by setting the mood then spent too much time in the fighting, which was very boring and seems more like the makers of the video indulging in their own fantasies of recreating the Neo-Morpheus fight than anything.

I'm somewhat interested in this game, but if every damn player is going to be superhumans running around with shades and a trenchcoat, then it would be a bit boring.

That video has dropped my interest in this game to zero. It looks just terrible...

The fighting scene in the dojo looked just AWFUL, too. Yuck.

The worst thing is that it really didn't do anything to answer questions that have been at the core of things since this project was announced. Like....how will there be any enemy variety in a "real world" setting? How will the fighting work? Do you do anything besides hand-to-hand combat?

YOU CAN FLY JUST LIKE THE ONE YOU CAN FLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111111111

Wait. If everyone is like "The One," why was he called "The One" then? :P

IS everybody's created character going to be wearing sunglasses and possibly a long trench? Geez....

That video was kinda cool and bad at the same time...

The fighting system looks like it has a lot of moves.. but it's visual impact is just wasted by horribly stilted animations... also the way they slowly turned to face each other indicates what will probably be a poor control system.

The sequence at the end with a group of them jumping super high was kinda cool tho... like a group of birds in formation.

But it's THE MATRIX! Everybody wears leather/long trenchcoats and sunglasses! :lol

Why bother to recreate movie scenes? I've seen the movie. The movie was better at it. I'm not going to be playing this thing, acting out bits from the movie. What's the game?

Don't worry, they begin offering customized clothing at higher levels. After a while your average bad ass will be touting this:

Then they can aspire to this:

Finally, for the truly godlike:

The second two movies have been so much cooler if Neo and Co. dressed like that.

Guys... It's the first fan-made video, don't judge the game by it. It only shows a minuscule fraction of what is possible with the moods/emotes system and the combat system. And indeed, on second thought, it does give the wrong idea about the game. I can see how it could make the game look very bland and boring to people who haven't played it and it may have been a better idea for the developers to not have given them permission to release it.

I'll post all my cool screenshots and decent info when the NDA is lifted, for now I'll stay quiet... Cause I really don't want to lose my account. See anyone else breaking the NDA? No, cause nobody wants out. And every beta tester I know who also plays City of Heroes and WoW has given up those games for MxO. Maybe that means the game isn't so bad as everyone thinks it'll be ;) .

Mark my words, this game will do big things for the MMORPG genre.

Or it could mean you don't know a whole helluva lot of people... why do people always pull that line out? Like you know some huge percentage of the userbase of any game... console... etc.... That statement is not a testament to the quality of the game either way.

Ok then I'll expand the statement with the facts that, as a good beta tester, I very frequently visit the MxO beta forum and pay specific attention to the 'MxO vs. other mmorpg's' discussions. There, now my statement should be at least a tiny little bit of a testament to the quality of the game ;) .

I feel the same way about video games in general. :|

Oh, and the game looks really dumb.

Yes. I've been on the beta since November, this game sucks. Great graphics and a lot of nice little touches...jacking in and watching the code form into objects is nearly worth the price of admission alone! but the gameplay is crap. I'd much rather just see a WoW clone than see them trying to push their weird-ass combat system. Also, the in-game help system is pathetic. Again, WoW has spoiled me with plentiful explanations and tool-tips (!). Also, MXO suffers from the same problem as City of Heroes....there's only so much city you can see without it all blending together...though maybe the constructs they're talking about will give you more exotic locales.

The game looks bleh... but the idea of participating in the "matrix" world IMO is appealing... I can see the attraction in that regard.

Yes, it will remind the world that World of Warcraft was a fluke and most MMORPGs are indeed shit no matter what label you slap on them.

I was also curious how they can build an economy when the films themselves basically imply that you can have any object for free (through loading programs).

The desire to explore is also kind of hindered when everything is just some big same-y looking city. There's no "Let's go to the mysterious western lands where orcs and wraiths roam"......it's just "Let's go to the other side of the city where there's Wang's Laundromat and a subway station".

Also....can you be fat in the game?

Can't blame people for thinking it'll suck... I thought the same until I got into the beta. I'll be very amused when all the reviews come rolling in though :D .

This game is about 2 years too late. The characters look teh blocky. I wish they'd taken a more stylized approach to the models and graphics. Also, not green enough.

And those green sparkles and ripple effects look good for an N64 game...

so what do you do in matrix online. i mean besides jump around and sit in chairs.

Dude, wear your sunglasses inside!!!!!!!

What's the point of a matrix where everyone online knows they're in the matrix and gives all of their business to hot topic and the leather emporium?

.....
.....

I have nothing to reply to that...

*logs into WoW*

have you been on anyother MMOrpg board? More often then not theres a "CoH vs MxO or WoW vs CoH or EQ2 vs WoW" the game which has the "homefield advantage"..so to speak...is always the better one. Except in the case of SWG then every game is better.

Next your gonna tell me that Fanboys are a good judge of how a game is.

Of course the majority will choose for the 'homefield' game but usually there's always a fair amount that just get on the forums to bitch about the game and say how good it all is in that other mmorpg. And I wouldn't have made this point if the MxO forum consists mainly of shallow fanboys.

I assumed the readers of my post would take the 'homefield advantage' of the game into account rather than assuming I'd be saying that the game is good cause the fanboys like it. Thought this was a given.

Ill buy it. Mainly because the whole things being scripted by paul chadwick + all the movie actors doing voices.

Though I fully expect to give up 2 weeks later much like every other MMORPG ever (yes including WoW :P)
