Anyone ever notice any unmistakeable videogame tunes on the radio or tapes?

I've heard of Em rapping over Soul Calibur but I've never heard it myself.

The coolest one I've encountered is Metroid. An unknown artist was freestyling on the original escape from mother brain music redone with the first minute or so looped.

Kid Kameleon did a spankin' good job mixing the Mario Bros. theme in with some M.I.A. on his Absolutely Shocking mix.

And while it's not music per se, doesn't Prodigy's "Breathe" sample an effect from Samurai Shodown?

Although I wouldn't call it "normal" music, the first Mr. Bungle CD has some videogame music (Nintendo 8-bit) in it. Also some pinball machine samples too.

Related, but I think that one of the Mega Man composers ripped off the beginning of Guns N' Roses' "My Michelle." There's some piece of a Mega Man tune that sounds almost exactly the same, though I wish I remembered what it was.

Missy Elliot and Busta Rhymes frequently sample video game music and sound effects... lord, I remember a video Missy Elliot did, directed by Hype Williams I think, where she was in a fat Mega Man style suit.

I'm pretty sure Buckethead samples Sinistar on one of his songs, the "BEWARE COWARD!" part.

Someone told me a Ben Folds Five song sounds a lot like part of a Metroid tune, but I haven't found that yet.

Not sure about that, but Flash Man's stage in MM2 has music nearly identical to Spencer Davis Group's I'm a Man.

I believe the Fred Durst/Method Man song "N 2 Gether Now" used sound effects from Defender to bleep out profanities.

The most obvious: Pac Man Fever.

That Smashing Pumpkins double album says it uses DOOM sounds or something, but I could never spot them.

On the second disc, From Twilight To Starlight, the first track, "Where Boys Fear To Tread", there are a couple explosions from Doom right before the first verse starts.

I was unfortunate enough to have to listen to fox news today, and I swear the little intro music to the show that they played after comercials was ripped off of the final boss theme from Panzer Dragoon Zwei.

Yep.

In Mega Man X3, the Neon Tiger stage samples the song "My Michelle". They don't rip it off really; it seems to be more "in honor of GnR". Mega Man X5 also has tons of GnR references. Just about every (or maybe all) of the new Mavericks are based on members of the band.

I know Sage Francis had a freestyle over the theme from the second level of Super Mario Bros. for the NES. Also, Akrobatik references Final Fantasy Tactics and Tekken 3 (I've never heard a man rhyme off of "Dr. Bosconovitch"), and I think he uses a sample from Tekken 3... I can't remember exactly.

Also, HORSE the Band did a song called Cutsman, which features the theme from Adventure Island.

The Nextmen tune "High Score" is based around a big sample of the music from Xevious, and is about playing arcade games.

Another Mega Man song.

The band REM did a song back in the early 80's called "All the Right Friends".(Also featured on the soundtrack to the film, Vanilla Sky)

It sounds exactly like Elec Man's theme from the very first Mega Man game.

I'm not sure what game its from, but Del The Funky Homosapien's song "Proto Culture" (which is all about videogames, incidentally enough) uses one. It tends to pop up in hip-hop songs a lot, game SFX, references and loops.

Oh, another one.

A while back I was listening to this rap song that used samples from Sonic Adventure 1. Specifically, the track that plays on the Red Mountain stage when you're underground.

Anybody know the artist or song title on that one?

It's probably the best song about video games ever!
