Video Card Problem

Hey guys,
Just picked up a new 6600 GT and have run into some problems here after installing it. Everything seems fine and loads up properly however when I actually go to check out what the new card can do ie: play Half Life 2 or even run a 3D performance test it crashes and my monitor goes to power saving mode. Whats with this? Anyone got any ideas?

Have you downloaded the latest drivers from Nvidia? I don't know how much you know about computer hardware, but usually newbies will use the drivers that come on the disc that comes with the hardware. That's a big no, no. The CD usually has the very first release of the driver that has insanely huge bugs.

Also make sure you uninstall the old drivers before you install the new ones.

Yup I've downloaded the latest drivers from nvidia.com. Its weird though because it seems to only happen when the card is pushed past idle. BF 1942 worked fine yet HL2 crashes with anything else high end.

LOL, get a new PSU.

If you can't fit it into the HP case, buy a case and move your HP into it. Even average cases have much better PSUs than 250.

OK, I have a problem with some computers. I guess some software that got installed on them screwed up the DVD movie playback feature. First I solved the problem on a notebook by uninstalling the video card drivers and reinstalling them but that doesn't work on the desktops. I get a "DVD decoder is being used buy another program" error(with hotllama player) or another not very specific error with WMP. Anybody familiar with DVD decoders? I searched microsoft.com for downloadable dvd decoders but they charge for them. How do I fix this? Any clues?
