whoo that is some awsome shit right there.

I got a rinky-dink park flyer that I trained on. I recently bought a sim to help practice for helis, since that's the next thing I want to buy. That jet is awesome, I wonder what kit they used. The radios they use to control these planes are insane too. The turbines are expensive as hell though, and a bitch to get working right AFAIK. They even have turbine helis, but those are difficult due to the throttle lag of a turbine engine. RC tech is really, REALLY good these days. That's why the military is so intent on going with unmanned drones. PEACE.

Smells faintly of rancid stilton.

Revvin' up your engine
Listen to her howlin' roar
Metal under tension
Beggin' you to touch and go

Highway to the Danger Zone
Ride into the Danger Zone

Headin' into twilight
Spreadin' out her wings tonight
She got you jumpin' off the track
And shovin' into overdrive

Highway to the Danger Zone
I'll take you
Right into the Danger Zone

You'll never say hello to you
Until you get it on the red line overload
You'll never know what you can do
Until you get it up as high as you can go

Out along the edges
Always where I burn to be
The further on the edge
The hotter the intensity

Highway to the Danger Zone
Gonna take you
Right into the Danger Zone

Highway to the Danger Zone

You know you love it.

My Dad has a RC Helicopter and it's an absolute bitch to fly. I can't imagine how hard it would be to fly this Tomcat.

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
Awesome link, quite a lot of my coworkers worked on the F14 back when it was still in production. I'll have to pass this over to them and show them.

Ah, always loved the F-14...probably because of this.

That model is simply ridiculous. I'd love to get a RC Impreza myself, but it'd take more time or money then I've got at the moment.

What's the point of a model Tomcat if the geometry's not variable?

...
The geometry is variable. You can see it on one of the passes into that inverted roll. The change in geometry probably isn't as pronounced, b/c I don't think the the airfoil they use would be as effective at the speeds they use. So swinging full back to a delta would make the ailerons useless, and the lift characteristics crummy. Plus you'll probably have to constantly switch between regular aileron flight mode, and using a delta/elevon (elevators acting as elevators and ailerons) mix each time to changed the main wing config. In a $5K-$10K model, I don't know if I'd be comfortable with it. Then again, everyone crashes.

bionic: I think topping 200mph is definitely possible, but yeah, 275mph seems high. A quick google search brings up the speed record as being held by a glider at 245mph. Musta been very weighted and just in a straight dive to earth. I'd guess a little lower than that would be the record for a ducted fan or turbine jet. Those BVM jets are awesome. PEACE.
