Viewtiful Joe > Me

About a day ago I restarted Viewtiful Joe and it is kicking my ass. Back when it was released I beat it on Adult. A month ago I heard if you beat it on Kid's Mode you get a little video. So I did.

And now Adult mode is owning me badly...I can't even get past the annoying shark. :(
Tis a sad day in gaming for the Blinkster.

EDIT: Completely forgot to ask if this has ever happened to you...has this ever happened to you?

I know all the games on MegaMan Anniversary Collection are kicking my ass something fierce. I don't know how I beat them when I was younger.

Gran Blue was the hardest boss in the game for me. And my anger only grew more when I heard people say he was the easiest...his pattern is easy to notice. But that "swim around and stalk you to death" chomp attack
was the most annoying thing in the world. The easiest boss for me was
Alastor
. Awesome character, but I could own that wannabe so easily.

The first time I ever played through the game was on Adult. You gotta sink or swim, and I'm glad I did it that way. Viewtiful Joe kicked my ass very very hard, but I made it through. It really teaches you how to play the game though. I would have to really know a boss before I could beat it. Something would just click and then the boss would be bent over my knee, begging for mercy.

I can't wait for the PS2 release, but I'm kinda scared that I might have a hard time unlocking Dante. I was playing through the game again last week but stopped at
The Magnificent 5
. Once again that damn
Gran Blue
messed up things.

i started playing through Adult, i got up to the shark in the Magnificent 5 chapter and died a couple times, and i found it very frustrating to go through the bat and rhino dudes again just to get up to him again - especially having to collect the rolls of film again, so i decided to give it a bit of a break before i return. it is funny though, i'd get beaten pretty bad by a boss over and over and then suddenly when i do beat them, it all seems pretty easy.

before that i had played through the Kids mode to unlock the music video - only to find out they removed it from the PAL version, no doubt to accomodate those useless EU languages that are a waste of valuable disc space anyhow =(

VJ definitely is a hardcore gamers type of game.

Has anyone else seen the Japanese animated commercials? They're hilarious.

Yeah they were great :)
I loved the one (perhaps there were a few of them?) where the minion was leaving to go off to work, and saying goodbye to his family. Funny stuff.

Charles is the easiest boss in the game by far.

Anybody got a link to those commercials?

Oh and I'll be starting VJ in about a week when I finish symphonia... should I start with the easiest (kid?) mode to unlock that video-- is it worth it? It seems choosing "adult" mode is the way to go.

edit: Thanks Blinky.

I seriously must be the only person that though VJ wasn't hard...maybe playing retro games is because of that?

I'm used to hard difficulties too though. MegaMan; Super Turrican; Ikaruga; Hard games are my favorite type, the kind where the game is really 2 hours long but you spend like 8 hours on it because it's such a bitch...yeah.

Chrono - Kid Mode is easy. The Video Sucks.

Viewtiful Joe owned me on adult mode. I still haven't gotten past the Magnificient Five, and I'm beginning to doubt that I ever will.

I found easy mode to be REALLY easy. I was able to get through the first two levels in easy on my first sitting. I didn't want to completely blow through the game too quickly, so I started over on "Adults" mode, which is much more of a challenge. It also really makes you learn the game more in order to do well. I've done my share of dying, but I have yet to be frustrated (I'm only about halfway into the fourth level so far, though, so that may change later on).

The reson people think Gran Blue is easy is because when he is out of the water, he is EXTREMELY weak.

Slow-RHOH is your friend.

(Slow+Zoom+HOLD DOWN the punch button)

Every enemy in VJ has a very distinct pattern and a large weakness.

Boy, talk about speaking too soon. I think I'm getting frustrated. Just got to the fifth level boss earlier today, and got my ass kicked repeatedly. I figured out the "trick" to hurting him quickly enough, but actually coping with his other attacks is really giving me a headache. I actually got him down to about half of his final life bar once and then he went all Meta-Ridley on me and wiped out the rest of my life.

One thing that does bother me about VJ at times is the strange camera during boss fights. Would it really have killed them to have it zoom out when you're further away from the boss? It was somewhat tolerable in the other boss fights, but the one on the fifth level seems designed to make it needlessly hard to avoid damage in certain conditions.

I also hate how the camera does not zoom out during boss fights. When I fight the shark, Gran Blue, I never have any idea as to where he is when he is swimming around. The camera can be a big pain and cause you to take risks in order to see where your enemy is.

I had trouble with that at first, but then I realized how he moves. Basically, he'll always go in a straight line, directly towards you. So all you have to do is pay attention to where he was going, and you know that he's going to be coming from that direction, and headed right towards you, on his next leg of the swim.

After a little more practice, I managed to beat Fire Leo yesterday. Discovering how to keep him from jumping back into the lava made the fight go a LOT smoother.

all i do when i know he's chomping around is just keep jumping and look out for which direction he'll come from, and that usually works.... though probably not good enough :P
