Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | July 2013 | Slow Month, Fast Games

Okay, narrowed down my purchases today to Gungnir, Riviera, Growlanser, and Yggdra Union. Contemplating Lego batman vita as well cuz it is freakin 5 bucks. Damn. This is a good week.

do you already own knights in the nightmare, as it seems like a bit of a shame to buy the other 3 games in the series but not knights lol (riviera is episode 1, game one, yggdra is episode 2, game two, knights is episode 4, game 3, and gungnir is episode 9 game 4 of the Dept. Heaven series)
It's pretty decent. Just not as good as the original.

I can get that, and that is what I expected as it would be really weird if the $3 PSM version was better than the $15 ps3 version.

edit: top of the page recommendation.... buy an atlus game while it's on sale :P

I don't know about Lego Batman tbh. I played the PC version and the better parts of the game is the open world and being able to use all the characters freely to collect all the collectables. The actual levels were lackluster and most of the boss battles weren't great.

Is the game itself actually good? I was looking at the ClassicGameRoom video review and the dude was pretty down on it.

Edit: I also didn't realize that Episode 1 of the Walking Dead is free for the PS3. Will probably wait till the entire season is cheap on the vita before I'll play it, but it's still cool.

don't know, while I own the psp version of knights, I played a number of hours of the DS version instead, and they apparently play a bit differently... I lost motivation to continue the DS version when the psp version was announced, and never found motivation to pick up and play the psp version. I just personally find it a shame when I have a gap in a long running series, regardless if the one i am missing is any good.

on a side note though knights is the highest rated psp game of the series on metacritic.

edit: note, I am bad at playing games... my backlog is huge ><:

Ah what the hell. Added to cart. But who am I kidding. I will probably never get around to playing all these games.

Picked up:
Lego Batman 2 ($5 and I like Lego games and it looks better on Vita than 3DS at least)
Crimson Gem Saga (The only JRPG I was interested in from the sale lineup)
Kenka Bancho (Looks like a fun beat em up)
Silent Hill: Book of Memories (I've never played a silent hill game and I watched the IGN review where they said it was like a diablo style dungeon crawler and that sounds like fun)

i still own 70 plus ps2 jrpgs that I need to play...
I could likely not buy a new game for the next 10 years, and be able to continue to play new games/beat games at the same rate i currently do and not run out of games (I will easily run out of enjoyable games well before that though lol... way to many bargain bin buys)

When I played Knights on my DS I felt it had WAYYY too many subsystems and tried to be too many things at once (Bullet hell with dimension switching that changes units abilities placed via SPRG style that can't move and victory is achieved by killing enemies to win bingo determined by slot machine) for me to fully enjoy any one aspect. Add to the fact units are temporary and die eventually it makes it hard to become invested and the confusing narrative in the beginning doesn't help either

How long has retro city rampage been $4.99? Glad I didn't buy it at launch. This a sale or a permanent price drop? If a sale anyone know when it ends?

I've heard very mixed opinions on the game but for $5...

Re: Retro City Rampage

It was free on ps+ at one point. It's listed as a sale, so for now just assume it's for a week only.

It was a fun enough distraction although it felt unfocused and forced with many of its jokes. And it doesn't fully realize it's potential as a crazy old-school GTA parody. And some of the mission outright tell you how lame they are yet still make you do them, stealth and tailgating. I had a good enough time to finish it to completion and don't regret the time put into it. But the final boss may want you to throw your controller/vita at the wall

Yeah, RCR is a polarizing game. There is a Vita demo to try out in the PS store. If you didn't like the demo, don't get the game because it probably won't get any better for you.

Thanks. I think for $4.99 as you say it is a good distraction and bit of a time waster. I remember trying the demo a while back and thought it was OK but not at that price of $10 or $15 whatever it was. If anyone else has a better suggestion to spend $5 on then I'm open to that as well.

I just downloaded that imaginstrument app. lol

Is there not a way to record and save tracks you make? Says you can but don't see how.

So it may be just me but I my thumbs keep hitting the touch screen when I'm using the sticks. Messes me up in Gravity Rush, will nubs help alleviate this issue?

Give the Coconut Dodge demo a try. I really liked the Minis version, this should be improved.

Since we got full one in PSN+ recently I was hunting for trophies in it and generally it's enjoyable for few hours but it's kinda like phone game - you can waste time in it but it's not like you lose anything if you never play it (apart from trophies :D )

I'm glad that more people is considering silent hill, imo a very underrated game.
Can i suggest you to play the first 2-3 dungeons(possibly dying lol) without installing the patch?
Imo being able to see the big gameplay changes made to the game is interesting.
I finished it(the story dungeons) before the patch, when you die there's a long loading , you lose all your progress from the last save but you have your inventory intact, with the patch after a death there are no more loading times and you don't lose your progress but retrieving only few of the items(i'm talking about medikits, repair kits, keys etc) you had is really punishing, because in later levels item become more rare and money are never enough, in levels that became bigger and harder items are really essential.
Death is heavily punished both before and after the patch lol.
I suggest to redo the first dungeon everytime you need items.

The US store is updated with a bunch of discounts for PSP games from Atlus:

- Crimson Gem Saga,,Kenka Bancho, Class of Heroes 1, Hexyz Force and Knights in the Nightmare are $3.49

- Growlanser wayfarer of Time and Gungnir are $7.49

- Yggdra Union is $2.49 and Persona 2:IS is $19.99 (down from $29.99)

So its a good chance if anyone wants to round up their PSP collection

edit: Also Riviera the promised land is at $9.99
I'am jealous, some of these games are not even on the eu store(like kenka bancho) :(

So I just checked the EU PS blog about the Final Fantasy X and X-2 releases and SE replied saying that they cannot confirm the formats of the releases for the Vita....

This to me pretty much says it will be DD only as the PS3 version is readily available to pre-order against and has a LE as well, whereas the Vita doesn't have either.

I was really hoping for a retail release for both on the Vita. :(

Considering a retail release has been confirmed for PS3, I think its safe to assume DD only for Vita. Im cool with that though. I only want X.

Yeah it's great Vita will get both games I am a physical format guy at heart plus I'm really lacking space on my memory card!

Thats my problem. Just had to delete FF7 and FF9 to make room for Ninja Gaiden. Saves stay on that card though and it takes me 15 mins to re-download so no biggy.

I don't really care about it personally because getting it digitally would save me about $12-15 but I don't want it to hurt its sales which it will. I don't understand how SE can have such little confidence in the system.

It's even worse for the AU store. Games like God Eater and Fate/Extra don't exist at all over here despite being the same region. Stupid licensing issues. :c
Yeah, I'm still really sad we haven't got Corpse Party yet :(

As much as I'd love retail Vita versions I'm fine with this aslong as Square-Enix don't price the games too high on Vita.

So in my attempt to actually get through a bunch of my games I never completed I finally got round to finishing most wanted. Such a good game, crazy how I keep trailing off interest playing genuinely decent games.

I think I just need that competitive game I can play regularly and then the rest of the time play other games. In this case I can finally play a bit of league of legends again as the baby has started sleeping more predictably so that lets me concentrate on vita games at other times.

So yeah I only actually needed 2 more most wanted cars to finish the main goal of the game and now I have done that. However I then went and bought spyro trilogy due to the sale. Pretty impressed with how decent that games looks and plays (well the first one, Havn't touched the others yet). I have also started to continue playing final fantasy IX. Yet another game I started and then wondered off to playing something else. Again its a great game but I just have so many games I get in a rut of what to play. Prob should stop buying games until I have finished more of these but I think we all know thats not going to happen.

I am looking forward to Spelunky and that other indie horror game thats coming. Any news on release dates?

huh,
out of nowhere my vita won't connect to the store.

error code:

NW-8942-3

any idea?

edit:

restarted router and system and it works like a charm again.

For reference all NW error codes are net related. NP related error codes are to do with your account/store. That error code was an SSL related error.

I understand I might be asking a limited audience but this is the best thread to ask possibly. Which has a better story and is better paced, Growlanser Wayfarer of Time or Gungnir? Both look really interesting to me, but I am kidding myself if I will ever get around to playing both. I do like that in Growlanser you have party control to explore towns and such between battles, but I also like the flair and gameplay of Sting games.

Speaking of Sting everyone should buy Knights of the Nightmare. The gameplay is so radically different from any game you have played before. Imagine a bullet-hell shmup crossed with a SRPG.

Managed to find an article detailing the misunderstanding.

Stealth Inc is confirmed for July.

article still says spelunky is this month at least. Already got Stealth bastard in a humble bundle so I wont be getting that.

So Tokyo Jungle is pretty awesome, and for £2.40 or whatever it was I can't complain at all.

hows it work? I kinda got put off when I heard it was a different kind of game but I dont know much about it to be honest.

Anyone wanna provide a comprehensive list of upcoming Vita games?

It works pretty much the same as the main game - it's not exactly turn based - but your movement is locked to a grid. It handles a little weirdly at first but.. yeah, it's a 2D Tokyo Jungle pretty much. Recommended for the price.

Picking up a Vita today along with a 16GB card...hopefully Best Buy has them, the only cards on their website are the 8GB and 32GB.

I've already got PS+ along with Guacamelee and Hotline Miami so that should hold me off until Dragon's Crown releases.

Such a bummer watching the giantbomb ios xcom quicklook.

Screen too small/touch controls being finnicky as fuck.

Both problems would be solved by the vita :(

http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/quick-look-xcom-enemy-unknown-ios/2300-7667/

Watching that quick look kinda annoyed me to be honest. I played it start to finish on my 4s and it was fine. When they were complaining about it not moving the camera up and down a level it actually was. There is just an issue with it not showing the roofs which I think is in all versions.

Complaining about spinning the camera was silly because that little camera button on the left opens up the buttons that do it so you don't have to use the gestures.

clicking on the right spot to move is easy. It baffled me they found it so hard. All that time he was trying to move on the roof, all he needed to do was click at the top of the ladder where the blue outline was and that would have made the roof visible and he could have then moved further.

It has its quirks but they are easy to get around. As for not reading the text? they need their eyes tested. I don't have perfect eye sight and I could read it. Good thing about the phone is its pretty easy to move closer to our face to read stuff.

yes its better on tablets and would be a bit better on vita but it works fine on the iPhone as well. Surprisingly so. I bought it only because I didn't think it would come out on android for my nexus 7 but in the end really enjoyed playing it on the phone.

edit: even on vita i would use touch rather than move a cursor around with a controller. Hate doing that in strat games.

edit 2: strangely it also means my phone has the best portable game ever made now (IMHO). Original xcom is my fav game ever made and while I would say the new one wasn't better (as its shorter and has less stuff) it was a fantastic redesign that I really loved.

Western releases or all?

Nothing but unconfirmed dates on indie games, not complaining though my plate is quite full with:

Little Kings story
Lego Batman
Sillent Hill
Coconut Dodge
Tokyo Jungle

And for some reason after buying AND downloading those i got hooked on Sonic Racing which i own since launch and never touched it.
