Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | July 2013 | Slow Month, Fast Games

Top of the page recommendation: Silent Hill Book of Memories - Regular Price: $29.99 Sale Price: $14.99 PS+ Price: $7.50

Anyone wanna provide a comprehensive list of upcoming Vita games?

I wanna do this in the vein of my [thread=592076]E3 2013 thread[/thread]. Just got to find the time...

question regarding hot shots golf - i've been putting in a massive amount of time going after the crowns and dat plat, but i just realized that i've purchased two costumes so far and neither have made the "fancy dresser" trophy pop... anyone know whats the deal? i swear if this bug somehow prevents me from getting this plat i'll be pissed.

granted i freaking love the game and play because i want to not for the trophies in the end, itll still be a shame if i can't get it due to a glitch..

edit: nevermind!!

this just proves i come to gaf first for anything....not even google.

these games are pretty small and I was pleasantly surprised I could fit them all onto my tight for space memory card without too much effort. great update this week in terms of sales.

Anyone know if the next LEGO games for Vita are going to be 3DS ports again? They really need to do a proper Vita treatment :\

Edit - Also I can't wait for Terraria / Spelunky on my Vita. Here's hoping for Rogue Legacy sometime in the future, too.

yup. I never played it and never had the desire to sit at my PC and play these games but on a handheld they will work so much better for me. I know some people are not happy with it but for me this indie and jap game vita future is pretty good. I can happily play all this stuff in bed then a bit of LoL a few nights a week on my laptop and the odd AAA game that actually interests me on my main PC hooked up to my TV once it hits a steam sale.

Dont get me wrong, I still like AAA type games on Vita as well but I accepted a while back they are going to be few and far between.

I didn't know Hotline Miami 2 was already confirmed to be coming to the Vita. Same day it comes out on PC?

I don't know but I think the idea was to get all these older Indie games released so that their sequels / devs new games come out at the same time or close to the PC releases in the future.

That's a good plan to have. I wonder if the HM fellas are happy with sales on the PS3/Vita thus far.

Damn it, we need Minecraft so bad...

Correction: I need Minecraft soo bad....

Some Vita newbie questions guys, apologies in advance.

Playstation Mobile, this is a different store/network, games that run on both Android and Vita?

In the OP it lists Metal Slug XX as a free PS+ game, is this to happen later this month or am I missing something?

Related, PSP games, do they just run natively on the Vita or do you need a PS3 to stream them or something?

Thanks!

I'm on the fence about Silent Hill and New Little King's Story. Silent Hill's demo was good fun, so I guess I should pick it up for that price. Not sure if I should get NLKS after reading it has some framerate issues.

Well I think that people who actually buy handhelds are so used to games costing £30 new that when all these indie titles come out for £5-10 they are just insta buys. Put the same game on the smartphone and tablet market and people think its overpriced. Just look at xcom on ios. Game is a bargain but people used to smartphone prices think its to much. Its £13.99 for the same game thats £29.99 everywhere else. So I have the feeling they are selling pretty well. Plus a lot of them are so suited to portable gaming and because of the less demanding visuals run amazingly well.

I have heard a few cases of some of these indies selling better on vita than PS3 and it kinda makes sense when you consider the audience. Also shows that the attach rate for Vita must be really high.

1) Yes, it updates separate from PSN and the PS3 cant even see it.
2) AFAIK Later this month, we don't have an exact date.
3) Yes they run native like PS1 and PSM.

I'm playing through Persona 4 Golden right now and I'm going through it with a guide that tells me all the social links available that day, etc. Is this an ok way to play it or am I ruining my experience?

PSMobile is for sony smartphones (android) and vita. Games that are touch screen based but will have physical control options on via. It has its own tab on the psn store app.

PSP games run on the vita. The store has a section for them. However there are some games that arn't on the store but will actually run on the vita. You play them by downloading the installer to a PS3 and then transferring that over to Vita. Then the game will install and run from the Vita itself like any other PSP digital game you bought for it.

I didn't play it that way. If you are trying to plat the game then you prob have to play it that way though. Its up to you if you think its ruining the experience. I liked not having such things dictate my actions and I personally chose what I wanted to do depending one who I wanted to develop my relationships with and not because a guide said I get this or that.

You really don't need a guide. You're risking the chance of spoiling the story.

The plat requires at least 2 playthroughs, so you might as well play through the game without using a guide first.

i played about 2/3s of LKS on wii. eve nwith the slight fps issues I'm sure its a fine experience. the game is great. i'm not sure if the sale is permanent so if it is you can hold off on it, but its a great game that gets a bad rap from people worried about framerates.

i haven't played SH, but if you gotta choose between the two i'd go LKS. esp if you're looking for a nice strategy/adventure/sim game ala pikmin-esque.

that said i'm buying both.

From what I can gather on the Internet, the Asia versions of Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 had Japanese audio with English (and Chinese) text. I wonder if X/X-2 HD will receive the same treatment? Hopefully it'll have a retail release there so we can easily import it.

Never played a Pikmin game, but I have played Overlord. LKS looks just like a deeper version of Overlord. Thanks, I'll pick up LKS.

You need two playthroughs to really get all the social links maxed out because your characteristics for your New Game+ will be already maxed out leaving you more time to work on Social Links. So if I were you I would only look at the trophy list and try to get some of the trophy items on your first play through so that way you won't have to worry about them on the second run. For instance getting all of the books is a pain and requires a guide to make sure you don't miss a date and you have to read them all I believe, so this might be something to follow a guide on for the first play through so you don't have to worry about it for the second one.

Once you finally come around for the second play through using a guide to max social links may be suggested, but on the first time just enjoy the game and focus on some of the other trophies instead.

As others have said, play the game as you like the first time through. Max out the social links of the characters your interested in. Restricting yourself to a guide ruins the immersion of becoming the main character by whimsically spending each day as they come.

two playthroughs of persona 4? i could barely make it through 1/4 of one.

great cast, but i think i'm over jrpgs.

P4 took a while for it to click with me, but once it did I got hooked.

I went through a similar phase where I couldn't play JRPGs as I didn't have the patience for them anymore, but P4 got me back into them. It's always good to take a break from a genre and then come back later so they don't feel as stale.

Hey guys. I'm getting a Vita sometime in the next few days (maybe even today, if I can stand to bike in the heat) and I'm looking for some PSN buddies. Befriend a lonely GAFer? My PSN name is Tom-ocil.

Yeah its my favorite case for sure. Its snug and you can put it in your pocket easily for flights etc. everything else is too large and ends up being used when I need to throw it in a bag.

I need that suede and mesh jacket.
I'm guessing these aren't sold anywhere in the UK

Stumbled upon some Invizmals: The Alliance gameplay.

Doesn't seem to need those AR cards. Runs at 60fps.

wow Looks good, runs very smooth and even the Vita's camera is looking better than when I last used it.

Is the battle system any good? I might pick this up.

i cannot recommend this enough. if you're feeling bored of a genre you used to really enjoy, take a break! play other genres for a while.

i just recently played through killzone 3 after taking a 2 year break from fps (aside from resistance vita...lol). i had bought it at release in 2011 but just couldn't get into it. this time, i absolutely loved it. i'm really excited for both killzone titles this fall. i also couldn't get into any jrpg for years until i played through p4g, aside from pokemon. it got me into them again, and since then i've beaten fire emblem and i'm nearing the end of persona 3.

Out of curiosity, what's everyone's go-to Vita games when they're bored? I'm not necessarily talking about your favourite titles (though they could be), but ones you consistently pick up to play to kill some time and know you'll enjoy them.

For me, it's Project Diva f. The very nature of rhythm games means they're highly replayable, but it's one of the few that I've been so hooked on. I never really was into Vocaloid prior to this game, but I've acquired a taste for the unique vocals of the songs now. Really looking forward to F 2nd even though I know I'll have to import it.

Second would be Dynasty Warriors Next for the similar reasons. Nothing like sadistically mowing down mindless mobs of enemies in some short missions. It's also got surprisingly good visuals when compared to the console iterations. Though, I'm not sure if that's a knock against the consoles or praise for the Vita.

Is that an arrested development reference to teamocil? If so you get a gold star lol

Hot shots golf for me - got 5/6 crowns left to get. praying i hit a HiO or double eagle soon because i know thats what will prevent me from the plat in the long run.

LittleBigPlanet and Pinball Arcade.

Project Diva f for me as well. Also looking forward to f 2nd, and will import for sure.

what is the consensus on class of heroes psp gaf? Is it worth getting on the vita? What type of game is it?

It's a first-person dungeon crawler a la Wizardry. I found it to be super obtuse and difficult, and gave up on it after a few hours. I wouldn't recommend it (unless you're a big fan of that sub-genre).
