Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | July 2013 | Slow Month, Fast Games

To many, Killzone Mercenary is the last chance to bolster FPS support for the device.

Also it's one of the selling points for me getting a Vita on launch date. That, along Uncharted, Resistance, and Bioshock (Where did that go anyway?).

Bioshock project most likely died after 2K saw Vita performance in the charts.

Anyway, KZM while it sound like it's the game to finally show what Vita can do in FPS genre the IP is just now big, but KZ is not a seller and not a game that will let COD/BF crowd to get Vita, and I don't even think if many of Killzone fans will jump and buy it (just look in this forum, many of Killzone fans in GAF don't even post in KZM threads), but I hope it do well.

Sounds like a bunch of people are getting Silent Hill. I got it on launch but only played for a few days (was too hard, didn't really enjoy it). With the new people playing and the patch that supposedly made the game a bit easier I think I should get back on the game!

a shame really since it sucks balls, New Little Framerate's Story is a better game.

i want to buy disgea 3 - good idea or bad idea?

Do you like SRPGs and like the idea of being able to power up multiple characters from puny to gods?
Do you not mind stories that don't take themselves seriously?
do you like games that have a ton of optional content?

if you answered yes to those then it's likely a good idea. Disgaea has a ton to offer, but it's really hit or miss if you will like it.

speaking of Tokyo Jungle, is it the first ever PSM game to be on PS store live area?

Sony really need to put PSM in the main PSstore( with their own icon like the indies) and not as a separated tap.

is that Tokyo Jungle mobile on the US store?

yes it is available right now, click on the PSM icon.

i can't as I'm at work, though I did bring my vita. I was going to check it out when I get home if it was possible (and indeed it is)

i'd rather sony make the store go back to being decent instead of complete and utter garbage before they start moving stuff around lol.

I guess that because they want to show people more stuff, since searching the store is kinda confusing (for an example tell a new Vita owner to search for DLC)

They need to redesign the store, like drop the huge text and make the icons colorful and bigger with the text in them (like Free to Play and indie Games ones) and have them side by sides, have more icons on the screen and they can even have their icon wheels showing new games

if i coul get one, whats the best?

If you only have $3.50 then Hexyz Force. It is the easiest to get into, while still being quirky and fun. Probably the most accessable ST!NG game since Riviera.

Knights in the Nightmare is awesome, and the digital version is pretty good in that the loading times are MUCH better than the Physical release. Still not as snappy as the DS release but much better graphics. VERY STEEP LEARNING CURVE!

Class of Heroes... I recommend saving that $3.50 and 21.50 more and buying the sequel instead. There is no point in playing the first one as the sequel improves on it in just about everyway and no story connections.

Crimson Gem Saga - I actually just spent $3.50 on it myself, so no clue.

It's a great tactical RPG with 10000 hours of game play. :) Well, a lot of hours. If you like anime..random humour, you'll love it. Although the story in 3 is the weakest out of the 4 currently out.

If you like tactical RPGs and anime-influenced oddball humor, you'll love it.

thanks, i think i'll give it a shot

I just want a store that doesn't force me to power off my vita 50% of the time when I go to download something because it locks up while trying to download something :/

I was hoping there would be disgaea 4 news this week for Vita, but it does not look like thats happening. Im guessing the announcements Nippon had for this week were the D2 US release, and that battle princess game right?

Nah, they haven't announced them yet. The two games they're teasing are getting revealed July 13th at a stage event in Japan.

disgaea 4 likely won't be announced for the vita until late this year or early next year for a mid/late release next year given the past history with portable versions of disgaea.

No regrets.

I purchased Tokyo Jungle. Haven't played it yet, but I do own the PS3 version. I'd say the only thing missing is trophies. The game more or less looks the same.

Is the PSM clone of Muramasa Rebirth any good?

It is really grindy. I think someone left some impressions in the PSM thread

Wha? Which game?

Mononoke Slashdown: Here were my lengthly impressions of it!

I've beat the game since then, and I have to say, it turns out so fun in the end.

At higher levels, you go from "Basic 3 hit combo" to "5 hit ground combo -> Uppercut, Jump, 2 hit combo -> Air Dash, 2 hit combo -> Double Jump, 2 hit -> TRIPLE Jump, 2 hit -> Decending Spinning Lighting Strike -> Cancel into Ultimate mage: Full Stage Lighting Strike!"

The game is really grindy, yes, but a nice thing about it is that every thing (move and Kunai wise) is ACTUALLY USEFUL. Each of the Kunai types are much more than "Hits for more damage", for example. They stagger differently, have different uses in the air, and basically fill different roles (some more for combos, others more for crowd control).

It's a lot deeper than I'd initially expect.

And you unlock a Harder difficulty after actually beating the game too, which seems to toss more soldiers at you from the get-go.

Game already had 5 chapters of 9 Stages each, with nice art for chapter completion, and finally beating the game.

Really makes me wish they'd hurry up and release Chaos Code on US PSN already! FK Digital seems to really know how to nail a traditional, fun gameplay style, and I really want to support their work... (Super Cosplay Wars Ultra was way too much fun for a Freeware Game!)

well that is pathetic, even some random LP youtubers are getting Vita capture units nowdays.

IGN was still that way too, last time I checked. Saw Colin in the comments section saying "unless we get a devkit" to someone for the Muramasa review, and gave "him" a link to the capture kit.

Someone push me over into getting NLKS. I never really played the first. Thoughts?

If you have a Wii I'd suggest playing the Wii version instead.

The Vita game is a remake of the Wii game, but it gutted almost all of the charm and personality right out of it in favor of a bland generic Anime motif/bland generic anime "jokes" and cliches. It changed its artstyle for the worse too, going from pretty unique and cute to totally generic.

It's not a bad game. The framrate is worse than the Wii version, and they changed some of the bosses from unique one-off battles to generic ones, but it's not unplayable. It's just the inferior version of a good game.

When you say a mess, what exactly do you mean?

Ugly as hell, botched UI, inconsistent physics across tables/versions, lots of bugs, they retroactively break tables with new patches. I like it a lot more than Zen but just because of the tables, such heritage deserves a competent developer which Farsight is not.

New Little Framerate's Story is really a good game with really super bad framerate, native res goodness with 4xAA, it is a Sim/Action/RPG/Strategy hybrid where you play as a king and need to reclaim your kingdom and harem (7 princesses), you hire and lead soldiers, carpenters, farmers..ect into the land and fight monsters in real time, you can develop your kingdom the way you want, have schools, weird religion church you can punish people from the land or make them all ninjas or let them lives as hobos, very good game just not recommended for anyone who is having problems with bad frame rate(it even can hit 5fps when you have 27 guards in your team or more and a fully developed kingdom).

Unit 13. I kinda like it, just pick it up and run a couple of missions when you have a few minutes here and there. Cover is a little clunky sometimes though.

Is there a consensus on what the best pinball game for the Vita is?

Zen Pinaball 2 imo. The tables that Pinball arcade uses are mostly classics, but they are best played as the real deal. Zen Pinball is the better video game pinball. I own all but 3 tables at this point and there are only a couple I outright dont like. It looks great on Vita, sounds good, and the tables are fun depending on what your looking for, and which tables you buy. I kind of prefer unique tables for VG pinball, and I like all the work Zen puts into their tables.

I wish we had a date for Kickbeat....

Is NLKS available via retail in English at least?
