Between Voltron, Transformers, and the rumblings of a new He-Man movie in development, there's like a Hollywood 80's cartoon mega-revival going on! I don't have access to the full Voltron article though. Hmmmm, wonder if it will be lion or vehicle voltron - lion all the way baby!!

'Voltron' clicks with Gordon for big-screen deal

"Voltron: Defender of the Universe" is coming to the big screen. Veteran producer Mark Gordon has teamed with music producer Pharrell Williams, World Events Prods. and producers Mark Costa and Ford Oelman to make a big-budget feature of the 1980s giant robot kids TV series and toy sensation. The World Events "Voltron" animated TV series debuted in 1984, about at the same time as Hasbro's Transformers toy line, igniting a morphing robot phenomenon. The story being developed will be based on the 1980s series about five maverick explorer-pilots who must travel to the planet Arus to learn how to operate Voltron, a giant mechanical warrior formed by five smaller robots.

Well, poo, I don't know why search didn't bring up anything, oh well. The rumblings of a new He-Man movie are still interesting though. :lol

Wasn't Voltron just a rip off of another cartoon? It was Japanese influenced, it had 5 things that came together and formed a massive robot, and it fought with a big laser sword. I really can't remember the name of it.

"Japanese Robot Show #256"

Actually the cartoon was called Shogun Warriors. It only had big ass robots fighting with swords. Voltron wasn't a rip off of that.

No, I was thinking of Shogun Warriors. Mattel released these huge robots (Almost 24 inches tall) in America in 1979. I think a cartoon soon followed.

These things had the mobility of a concrete block. Not fun to play with, but damn they were cool.

The Japanese cartoon it was taken from was Hyakujuu ou Go-Lion.

Then again half the sydicated cartoons I remember from growing up in the eighties were adapted anime. Voltron, Gigantor, Tranzor Z, Robotech etc.
