Wall-Mounting a HDTV in an Apartment

Anyone here that is renting have their HDTV mounted on the wall? I'm just curious the size of the holes a wall mount produces and how easily I could just put a bit of spackle on them and call it good when I move out? Our bedroom TV is 40" and the stand it sits on is pretty low to the ground (hard to watch from bed) and takes up a ton of room, I figured if I could, wall-mounting it would be great.

Also how do you hide cables? Just a wall strip?

I think our place would be fine so long as I can fill the holes when I move out.

Assuming you'll need to drill into the studs, the wood screws will probably leave a quarter inch hole in the wall. Very easy to spackle and sand smooth.

Buy, borrow or rent a stud finder. Is it an interior or exterior wall?

You got a problem with wires? Come on, sonny. Let's dance!

I'd never have the balls to wall mount a TV in an apartment.

Aside from not being particularly handy, I'm always highly skeptical of the build quality of modern apartments and would probably be worried about doing some serious damage in the attempt.

Instead, I've settled for one of these mounted TV stands (not this exact one but one like it) that have a somewhat similar effect as a wall-mounted TV and are also really good at concealing wires.

Interior wall. Quarter-inch isn't bad at all. I think they repaint anyways, so as long as I can cover the holes, it should be ok.

Yeah, I worry about the same thing, but I've heard the mounts are easy to use as long as you hit the studs, and I assume the apartment can at least hold up to one TV mount.

I have one of those mounted stands, but it clutters up the room.

Good, stud finders don't work well (or at all) in exterior walls because of insulation and other materials.

You should be good to go. If you buy a Zircon stud finder for like $50 (you can get cheaper ones but they're not as reliable), it has a graphical thing that shows you the center/edges of the studs.

You'll need an electric drill with drill bits and screw bits, and maybe a level (unless your mount has one built in).

Don't get the point of wall mounting generally, you've got the problem of the wires and you still need to have a tv stand for your consoles, blu Ray player and set top box

Did this in my last apartment. It's pretty simple just find studs and go to town. The holes left are pretty intense, but it's not a big deal. Upon moving out we simply filled it with some of that putty filler stuff from Home Depot and painted over it.

Well this is in the bedroom, where the only thing I have connected is cable, and maybe an Apple TV. My consoles and everything are in the living room.

I'm about to buy a 60" and I'd like to mount mine as well, unforuantely the place I rent the walls are concrete. :(

Get a taller stand or lower your bed by cutting off the legs.

Probably be cheaper.

My bed is on the floor. :P

Right now I have a normal TV stand, with a end table sitting on top of it. Boosts the TV up to about 4' off the ground.

I just want something that keeps the TV up high, yet takes up less space.

The wall mount I bought came with concrete screws I believe (in addition to wood screws)...though I have no clue how to patch up concrete after you take out the mount, lol.
