Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed its Japanese ICO development team's second game, known to you and us as Wanda And The Colossus, will be released in Europe during 2005.

In a brief missive sent to hacks this morning, Sony offered no specific details on the game other than its European name. Wanda, often referred to by its working title NICO, will henceforth be known as Shadow of the Colossus around these parts.

Shadow of the Colossus?! Dunno what to think.

Wanda is a one letter change of being a target for comedy... (phonetically)

Probably a good idea.

The name sounds totally generic now, so they might have made the right choice. I guess anything with 'shadow', 'dark', 'bloody' etc will always be the best for selling videogames.

Now bring on the ugly box art!

Considering Wanda is a dude, such a move is just to avoid stupid complaints from dumb Americans. But what's the point? It's not like they're going to buy this game anyway...

You do realize that ICO posted the highest sales numbers in the US, right?

Considering the US market is the biggest and has the largest userbase it's hardly surprising.

European release of Ico (this news is for Euro release only, right) was perhaps the best handled, as they not only offered a good box art, but they were selling it in a very nice cardboard box with four art cards included.

I wonder if they're planning to pay royalties to JackFrost? He's the one who came up with the "Wanda and the Colossus" name after all. :)

Exactly. Hey, I love the first one, and can't wait for the second one... and will love every minute of the stupid trek I have to make, from game store to game store, because no one bothered to carry it.

That's just stupid, though. ICO can be found in almost any store these days and I'm sure that will be the case for the sequel as well. It is an SCE game, afterall, so I don't think it will have a low production run...

Haven't seen ICO in my store in quite some time...

Anyway, the name isn't that bad. I'm with the fella who said, let's just hope this actually make it over, and in a reasonable, swift fashion. They could call it Madden NFL 2006, and I'd still buy it. AND THAT'S SAYING SOMETHING.

Yeah, but it WAS everywhere...

I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. They may've made a good first print run, around 200K, and then watched them languish on shelves for four years. If so, I don't know if that bodes well for a large Colossus print run. Mind you, I don't CARE as long as I get a copy, but it presents an interesting predicament.

And yet another fellow who's reading off of the Iron Sheik's cue cards.
