A TEENAGER plans to sue his parents after they allegedly installed CCTV in his bedroom to stop him from masturbating.

The 15-year-old claims the cameras were set up after his dad caught him performing the act earlier this month.

Turning to Reddit's legal section for advice, he wrote: "I'm 15 and think I should be allowed to touch my own body. This is embarrassing and destroys my privacy, please help.

"My dad barged in without knocking and started screaming at me. He and my mom then sat me down and told me I'm not allowed to touch myself."

The boy, from Alaska, claims cameras have also been installed in the bathroom.

He said his parents are against sexual activities before marriage, claiming they also stopped him from taking part in sex education classes at school.

He described how he found an Amazon package at his home and discovered it contained indoor security cameras.

The teen wrote: "I asked my dad and he said they are putting them [cameras] in my room and bathroom so they can monitor and make sure I'm not masturbating.

They told their son that they would check the cameras every day to make sure he didn't dare masturbate

That is a good legal question. I would say probably not, because whether something is pornographic or not depends on intent. That is why a photographer who is an artist can take pictures of naked little kids. Lots of people take pictures of their little kids in baths or whatever...or cute little baby butt photos.

I believe the term they used was that to be pornography, something had to be crafted in "the prurient interest," or with an intent to arouse.

The parents (and yeah, they are idiots) do not intend to record and distribute, or to use recordings of the kid for sexual gratification. Rather, the threat of the cameras being there is meant to deter sexual behavior.

From a Catholic point of view, I would give my kid the moral teachings of the church regarding sex and masturbation honestly and forthrightly, but I would understand the likelihood that they are not going to live up to them all the time, particularly as a young person. I would give them privacy but the understanding that privacy is not going to be absolute while they are living in my house, that I have the right to come into their room and even to look in drawers, closets, etc. They deserve the courtesy of knocking on the door before coming in. So yeah, the camera thing is just ludicrous.
