Want a Digital Camera, under $350

I need it mostly to post pictures of what I'm building to my site and SRK, but it'll be a traveller as well. I don't really know how many mega pixels I need, but 4.0 seems like a good place to shoot.

It absolutely has to be able to select between a decent range of resolutions.
Recharable battery would be nice.
USB 2.0 would be really nice.
I'd love an orientation sensor, to rotate pics as I take them (they seem to be holding that back until > $400 though.
I'm currently favoring Canon.

If anyone has good things to say about DigiCams in that price range I'll bend an ear.

Some Canons that I'm going to look at today; I can get them all for about $300.

Canon Powershot A95
Canon Powershot A520
Canon Powershot SD300

Danke.

Go with the A95. I have it and it takes great pics.

When i was doing my research it was rated more highly than most every camera in the same price range. I know for sure it was rated more highly than the other two you posted.

I want one under $1000 that has an incredible amount of MP and takes pictures quickly.

I have the Olympus 4000 Zoom... it is 4MP but it tries to figure out what to focus on and I seem to lose a lots of pictures of my daughter.

I need maybe the digital "Rebel", I tested it at Best Buy and it took like 10 pictures in 3-4 seconds... that will be fast enough for me...

Any suggestions for me too???

Was that the new Digital Rebel XT you tried? It just came out a few weeks ago.

It's been getting some really great reviews, and it's said to have about 80% of the capability of the Canon 20D for about $600 less. The body only lists for $899, $1099 with a kit kens. It's an 8MP sensor, although not the same one as the 20D.

My parents have an A80 (which the A95 replaced). I've used it quite a bit and I love it. Very crisp pictures and plenty of options.

$1000? Definitely go with a DSLR -- you'll have much more control over a point & shoot, plus every DSLR has a P&S mode while you learn all of the functions. Canon's new Rebel XT is great, and so is the Nikon D70/D70s.

Thanks your bastages, you are forcing me to spend $1000 on a new camera... I just had my garage ripped down and a new $14,800 garage ready to be built.

Damn...

It probably was the Rebel XT, if Best Buy has it on display... that was it... it was probably a month or two ago I checked it out...

I would need to sell my current Oylmpus 4000 prior to buying that one...

I've been thinking about getting this one for myself.

Pentax Optio 750Z Review It seems to meet your requirements. Check the review to make sure tho.

Butterflyphoto has it for 350 after rebate ($50), give or take a few after shipping. Hard to pass up at that price. Only thing holding me back is the Panasonic FZ-20, which is the one camera that I've been eyeing for a very long time now.. comes in at about 200 more than the Pentax though. yeep

After checking them out at Best Buy, the little SD300 was the front runner. I was just in love with the form factor, and was thinking of carrying it un-obtrusively in a front pocket while at PAX this year.

However, after reading the reviews at www.dpreview.com, my feelings have changed. Awesome site right there, exhaustive reviews and you can compare about the exact same picture over a wide variety of cameras.

Those sample pics showed how fuzzy the results looked on the SD300 compared to the A95. The A95 looks f-ing great.

I don't like it's form factor (everything looks huge compared to an ELPH), I don't like the smaller screen, I don't like the lack of an internal battery.
But there's no doubt that the A95 will far out perform the SD300 in 90% of what I will use it for: taking close ups of electronic hardware and arcade sticks.

Hell, PAX is months away still. Maybe I'll get an ELPH too when the time comes.

I've always been an SLR person, and just switched over to a digital SLR, but those little Canon cameras look really neat. I'll probably get one of them someday, just to have a shirt-pocket sized go-anywhere camera for when I don't want to lug the SLR with me.

ASM, I see what you mean about the "form factor" of the SD300, sometimes its hard to override the visual appeal of a camera and go with what the reviewers say.
