That question just popped into my head while I was in the shower and now I wanna know. Although I don't even think Packard Bell is in the US anymore, is the Packard in Packard Bell the same Packard in Hewlett Packard? And if so, why did he start two companies. (I'm guessing if it is, then Packard Bell was like the low line pcs like eMachines and crap)

"Is the Packard in Packard Bell the same Packard in Hewlett Packard?"

No

Hewlett Packard is named after the 2 people who founded it: Hewlett and Packard
Packard Bell, i think, is just a company name.

Actually I'm pretty sure it was Packard Bell at first, and then they changhed their name to HP....I remember hearing that from somewhere.

I always thought it was two companies merged.

EDIT; Wasn't Packard Bell a phone company anyway?

DCX

are the companies related?

i remember packard bell machines used to suck.. hard.

and they got caught reusing old hardware without telling the consumer. or so was the rumor.

Hehe nice... Now I finally know! Only reason I remembered Packard Bell is because I keep seeing Packard Bell ads from Europe. I can't believe Packard Bell is still alive. I wonder how their products are these days. I remember nobody used to want a PB because you could never upgrade them.
