I think I'll start getting into an air brush soon. Any recommendations on Amazon? I'll read up on it there and then buy it locally.

Finished the Ravenor audio book last night, it was way better than I was expecting. Highly recommend it. I'll be grabbing the second book today.

My god am I a slow painter. I've been working some black Templars for like 6 or 7 hours and I'm still not done. They aren't anything special either. No fancy layering or anything like that. I bet 1/2 of the time has been fixing errors though lol.

Li found the time to finish my Steel Legion chimera proxy. Still have to paint the tank commander, but the unit is table ready. Tried some (shitty) osl effects around the light sources.

I got way too tired at the end of the night. I did finish my black intercessors though. I got a base coat of black on my crusaders and grimaldus last night

Are there any trusted webpages that compare different paint brands? I typically paint as close to gw standard as possible so I'd like some to compare paints to theirs (as in what colour do they have that is closest to leadbelchur, etc). I've want to try Vallejo as I've heard they are good and the form factor is appealing.

I'm about 1/3 of the way through the audio book for ashes of the imperium and it is really good so far. I'm really enjoying the scope of it. The way they are setting the foundations for the future is great

I was talking with my 13 year old daughter today (it's her birthday) and we are listen to some music while she plays some weird tennis game on Roblox and she says "the touch" by Stan Bush would be a great song about the emperor and Horus fighting at the end, I won't disagree but how many kid knew about the fight was funny. I'd like a transformers movie style of the lore for sure

Finished ashes of the Imperium tonight and I do not get the criticism. It's fantastic. It shows the impacts and the beginning issues of the imperium and where stuff starts. Id highly recommend it.
My only real criticism is how it manages the blood angels, but they always sucked except for a few of them.

Yes it is. Love the stuff. I coat my minis straight from the pot with a size 2 flat brush and just sip the excess away with a tip pointed brush.
But i love the large shadows on the recesses - gives a comic book/cell shaded look to my troops

Been listening to the third Ravenor book and I'm about 2 hours in and so far it's not nearly as good as the first 2. The antagonist has suddenly "leveled up" compared to where they were before in massive ways. It just doesn't seem to hold together as well, at least so far. Lots of book left but kind of disappointing so far.
Also, if the rumour about the Legion of the Damned getting a kill team is true… that will be amazing.

I started using the Vallejo paint bundle my wife got me the other night and I'm pretty impressed. The black is just fantastic, the wood and cloth colours are nice too. The yellow is kind of trash but all yellows are I guess. The silver is also meh.
The way they built the paint tubes though is so much bettter it's not even funny.
I'll need to grab more of their colours.

Funny enough imperial fist yellow or ironjawz yellow contrast are super opaque and pretty good
Yeah, Vallejo paints are good and cheap. For me it's pro acryl > vallejo > army painter > citadel

Is this your first contact with paints other than Citadel? I hate their paint pots with a burning passion. They are deaigned to fuck you over in at least 3 ways.
And for those looking for a (supposedly) great yellow - Duncans two thin coats. He swears on his mother grave it is the best yellow ever.

It is. I like most of theirs. I also think the citadel ones are "thicker" and respond to thinning a bit better than the Vallejo ones.
Still, I'm looking forward to using them. I've been using them on a AoS box of "stabbas" as a trial and it's been a good experience. I'll post some tonight.

I have a few yellows with citadel that are ok, but yellows in general are just so unforgiving. They take like 5 coats

No problem! You can even dry brush white after that and use ironjawz yellow contrast. It'll give you a nice orangish undertone
Also a good investment is an airbrush, very smooth basecoat of the main color

I've been looking to get into air brushing. It sounds like it's a great help. Maybe later this year.

They are a bit thicker, true, but the pots are pure evil. I use just two colors: Fulgrumite Copper and Zamesi Desert and i pour them in empty droppers i bought. Otherwise they dry too fast. I like Vallejo as they were my first contact with miniature paints but you are right - most of the paints are quite thin.
So there's a good middle ground: Army Painter. Their Fanatics line sits nice in the middle in thickness, the dropper bottles have a better nozzle (don't clog so dast) and they come with two mixing balls pre loaded.
