Warhorse Studios is working on a massive, immersive RPG

During a Q&A session on Reddit, developers from the Czech studio were asked about rumors that they are currently working on a Lord of the Rings project. Content Director Ondřej Bittner remained vague.

« I can't disclose any details, but I can tell you that it's a massive immersive RPG. »

Daniel Vávra will make sure it's going to win all the 2SLGBTQIAAA+ awards.
I think he isnt working there anymore...didnt he went to Hollywood to make (woke) movies now? Weird guy. I really liked him in the beginning (KCD1)...but somehow the "success" really changed him into the same retard he once was fighting against. Sad story.

I don't think anyone wants to touch that shit. Not even Amazon themselves.
Embracer owns the license, they're profiting off Amazon making the series and all five seasons.

For some reason it's protected by Bezos. I'm sure the rights holder wants to link it somehow.

So you are predicting that Warhorse are doing a game based on Rings of Power? Afaik, the game production license that Embracer owns covers all of Tolkien's Middle-Earth stuff, not only Rings of Power. I am not sure why Warhorse would choose Rings of Power when the game will be in production for quite a while and Rings of Power will be finished and hopefully forgotten by the time we get a formal announcement of the game.

Amazon doesn't have any deal with Embracer. They have a deal with Tolkien Estate. Long story short, Embracer has rights for movies, games and merchandise based on Lord of the Rings, appendices and Hobbit, while Tolkien Estate held rights to TV series based on same novels and those were sold to Amazon. It's not protected, producing those 5 seasons was literally part of the deal between both companies. They have to produce those 5 seasons regardless of viewership

So far it seems just to be a rumor. But Warhorse, instead of directly denying it, kinda proceeded to hype shit up.
I listen to a podcast of the guy who said that rumor and he said that after dropping that information he noticed a lot of Warhorse employees were checking his LinkedIn profile who the hell he was. This guy was also hosting Kingdom Come Deliverance concert in Poland so he may indeed know some people who could know what Warhorse is working on

wasn't that the rumor? or has it just been people saying what they wish for?
Embracer is about to rename most of it's company "Fellowship Entertainment." LOTR is set to become the IP for the company, and Warhorse is set up better than any other Embracer studio to make a LOTR game. It's just logical that this is their next project.

This post will age well when they use the Rings of Power cast in it.
This would be true Monkey's Paw outcome.

KCD1 and especially KCD2 were amazing and I am very much looking forward to their next game (in like 5 years 😅).

If Warhorse ever developed a game with decent combat they would be considered on the level of CDPR or Larian. Future is extremely bright

Witcher 3 has really bad combat though. Nobody plays KCD for combat but the combat they have makes sense for the kind of game it is. Up close, violent, and weighty. Its not deep mechanically but at that point you risk losing the realism its going for by being more "gamey"

In terms of SYSTEMS and immersion KCD2 is already a far better game than anything CDPR did.
In terms of combat... Eh.
On one hand they aren't exactly competing against a heavy weight in the genre (even as someone who didn't exactly hate the combat in TW3, I have no problems admitting that it was far from ideal).
On the other hand, I'm kinda skeptic that even at its absolute best first person melee combat will ever be anything more than mediocre...

And before anyone mentions it, yes, I'm aware of stuff like Dark Messiah of Might and Magic and Arx Fatalis. That's exactly what I'm defining as mediocre, with everything else (Morrowind, Skyrim, Avowed, etc) being far below that threshold.

IF they are working on a new third person combat system it could get exciting, but then it will heavily depens on the quality of the execution.

Agree, there not far off, they need 1 more big hitter to realy go mainstream and if it is a LOTR games I think that will do it, good luck to them.

I really enjoy how mature the content is in KCD games are. I feel like the LOTR IP will force Warhorse to sanitize their game compared to KCD

It's funny that this is posted by literal cancer. Also, it is hilarious that just because Dan is not homophobic, he is now the enemy of american right-wingers, despite himself being one of the most outspoken and "controversial" right-wingers in the country (Czechland).

Is it confirmed its lotr?

Not at all. In fact from the AMA nothing was confirmed but I would not be surprised if they actually worked on one more KCD.
But it is still speculation.

I don't think Warhorse is a multi game studio yet. They don't need to work on KCD forever but switching from historical fiction to pure fantasy would be a huge bummer. Would rather see them try Roman or Greek antiquity if they are tired of late Medeival Bavaria.

While I would be cool with either Lord of the Rings of KCD3, I would really love a Elric of Melnibone RPG. The only thing that I got that was kinda resembling that was the WarCraft 3 story around Arthas, with a lot of eye-squinting and hand-waving.

Complete drivel. He just wasn't right wing enough for you in the end.

They may have to but LOTR is quite mature as far as fantasy goes ( take away that Amazon series ), but they probably have to tone it down a notch to go realy big. Im ok with that aslong as we still get more stuff from them more in tune with KC.

Maybe. ;) But he just changed his stance massively...and I hate that when people do that. Its not a crime to make a game with just straight relationships. He should have sticked to it. He didnt and everybody called him out for it. Expected outcome. 🤷‍♂️

KCD2 is my main game right now, and I'm definitely in on whatever Warhorse does next, be it a KCD3, new IP or some adaptation like LOTR.

With the use of the word "massive" here though, I hope their next game doesn't expand on scope (keep it the same as KCD2) and focuses on polish instead. As much as I'm enjoying the game, my one big issue with it is that it still feels very janky. Even a year after the release the game still has tons of bugs and issues, though thankfully nothing game breaking so far. I just played a big sidequest involving a swordfighting tournament yesterday and it felt like the game was barely holding it together.

Wait what?! I thought they canceled that shit after season 3. Haven't even watched the 2nd season after they completely destroyed LOTR in the first one.
