Was anyone able to find Doom 3 today?

Pretty solid so far. I'll go get Fraps or something to find out though. I don't know how to check otherwise.

Edit: Just ran fraps and ran around a bit. Seemed to fluctuate between 20 and 50 depending on what was happening on screen. Took a new shot with a zombie too.

Right now I'm in 1024x768 in Medium Detail. I haven't tweaked anything yet, and I should. Here's a few random shots, I'll take some better ones later.

I'm running a P4 2.8ghz with HT, 512 ram and a Radeon 9800 pro 128mb vid card.

Dude... you along with everyone else would be doing us a favor if you would also post your specs. The quality of those pics is amazing, so I guesse you have a nice setup

They aren't my pics. I'm not sure of the resolution, but it's in high quality. I can't wait to see what it looks like on Ultra.

Edit: Correction. That's 1600x1200 at MEDIUM quality.

Is is physically possible to play this game in the highest setting yet?

Doesn't it need a 512MB card for that, or something? The X800XT is only 256MB, as far as I know.

Yep, Ultra Quality needs a 512MB card.

That's it there, to my right is the curvy staircase.

I experienced two things running through that map. The teleport animation and the beserk power up. Both are CRAZY. If I could host a video I would, the sounds when you are going beserk are insane.

any idea when they're due out? I mean, the X800 just came out recently, and the latest nvidia card must have come out recently as well.

Oh man, that rocks. Thanks. Here is a comparison shot. :D

that's my point. I'm not a big follower of nvidia cards, because the Dell PC I'm getting only deals with ATI. Even there though, the highest of the high on the ATi side, the X800 XT, is only 256MB. I guess it could very well be a year or so before anyone can actually play this game at full glory.

Of course, how did id test the game on ultra mode?

Alright, I divx encoded an avi I made with fraps. It's 7.7 megs. I have a pretty fast upload, so if you want to see it really quick send me a message on AIM. Name on there is NathanShad.

Actually according to the recent [H]ardware guide, the game is fully playable in Ultra with a 256MB video card.

Successfully, although the Nvidia handles the game better.

The official benchmarks
This system has similar specs to the one you mentioned, except it has 4GB of ram and a PCI express slot. Scale the framerate back a bit (to compensate for Ultra vs. High) and the high-end X800 will probably average around 25 FPS. That's playable.

and here i am playing thief 3 like a chump... damn those screenshots are sweet. gonna have to start calling stores up tomorrow.

Someone hosted two videos I made, both in Divx. One is in 640x480 which made the video run much better, and then there's the beserk video which runs a little choppy seeing as I'm running in a high res and encoding an avi at the same time.

I warn, don't direct link those videos. The guy who is hosting them set it up to display nasties if you do.

Now I'm really going to sleep.

yea, I just looked through that.

Hmm, I wonder how a Dell XPS gen 3 will do?

3.6GHz P4, 2GB RAM, and an X800 XT

Good grief how much would a rig like that cost?

By the way that avatar is just wrong! LOL

so...from your impressions...dos the game have no gameplay? is the abundance of ammo enough to make you not get scared? do the graphics help create a gameplay experience so poor that it could only be better if it looked like shit?

sorry...that other thread with all the asshats is annoying beyond belief

I ran into the store and saw doom3 boxes all over the place only to realise it was the version i wasn't looking for :(

Called my EB, they said they were getting it early, but not till monday. I can't remember the last weekend I just wanted to end. :P

If I remember correctly, id said that Doom 3 would not default to Ultra unless the card was 512 MB...nothing about you not being able to change it yourself.

I don't know much about that one, will it let me play my original copy even though I have daemon tools and alcohol 120 installed? That's my worry there.
