That's definitely playable at medium quality. You shouldn't worry about the difference between High and Medium Quality, it's not really as dramatic a difference as everyone seems to say.

Err, it was already proven that the minimum specs run the game better than XBOX...so unless you fall below those specs, there is no reason to buy it on XBOX.

Proven by people that have played the game. No, it isn't out yet...but you are mad if you think they'll be able to modify it signifcantly by release. The fact of the matter is, Doom 3 PC on the lowest detail levels still looks nearly as good as the high detail levels. That much was proven.

The XBOX does not have enough ram, that's that.

I'd imagine that it's not any different from the haze effects you've seen in other games like Far Cry or Zelda even.

Small question:

I wanna be able to run the game on at least 800 x 600 at medium resolution.

I checked out Hardocp, the guide just doesn't say anything about the game requiring more of the CPU than lets say, Far Cry?

Someone else on another forum had similiar specs, with the exception of having a 9600. He said 800x600 medium quality was unplayable.

No no no no. Disregard that. If you had a 9500 Pro then you should do way better then a 9600. The 9500 Pro is basically a 9700 pro in disguise.

9600 has only 4 pipes while the 9500 Pro has 8 full pipes. Infact you can easily mod it and flash it to a 9700 pro.

So then.....9500 Pro clocked and flashed to a 9700 PRO >> whole 9600 line.

If there is one company making a profit from (PC) software it's iD Software (alongside Blizzard, VALVe and Epic I reckon)

These guys have built a legacy where people will buy their stuff regardless of it's quality, good for us that that quality is very good most of the time. And this is the new Doom for crying out loud, people buy new hardware just to play this game. I think that when you';re ready to fork out $400+ for a new videocard you might just as well have the $60 for the game. (I bought my videocard for HL2 so )

Which is also the reason why it's 10 bucks more than other games. Stupid mistake IMO. They should sell it for $39.99 and their sales, plus profit will likely double.

(Also, don't forget that this engine will be licensed to a shitload of companies. And royalties have benn iD's main income for many years)
