Clearly displaying their IPs to anyone who wants it.. biggest bust ever potentially?

I know I'm not touching it with a ten-foot pole.

this sucks though...all those bitches better buy this game :\

They won't. They won't when they realise their poor PC can't run the game. Poor ID, I'm sure they'll receive a lot of :

[...] Hey, I downloaded your game, and it's just slow ass shit on my PC. What the hell? I'm not buying anything from you dumbass!!!

Solid_Snake21233212323 [...]

You think ID can seriously prosecute that many people for downloading the game? I'm not advocating piracy here, but get real. The legal system is clogged enough as it is.

It probably sounds crazy but the game is very playable on a geforce 1 ddr! It runs great with all the detail set to it's lowest! Of course it doesn't look very good, but it's very playable. Funny thing since everybody was wondering if and how it would run.

It runs just fine on a five years old card! HA! Who would have expected that.

Of course this is not the rig I'm playing the game on, but my brother is enjoying it this way.

Well, if you strip away all the great shaders and lighting effects, the bulk of the rendering is pretty much just polys, something Doom 3 doesn't have much of -- so it's not surprising that the game can scale pretty well.

Yes... by using BT you would be uploading to others as well...

This is true, but if someone were to get a legal notice in the mail, you could stick to the "But but but I bought it already!" story and probably get off.

Tell him to make a screenshot, I want to see how it looks like

PC gaming isn't in trouble? Keep it up. The next id game just may be console only.

Hey, I'm one of the dumbasses who didn't preorder Doom 3. What are the chances that I can walk into my local Best Buy, etc. on Tuesday and come away with a copy?

I don't see what's funny and your infantile response just accentuates the mass lack of understanding of the seriuosness of the issue. If next gen consoles prove that they can stem the piracy tide, where do you think the majority of games are going to be published? 200K+ coipies of Doom3 pirated and you think that this isn't an issue. What a fucking imbecile.

It happens with every games, deal with it. It's less of a problem with ID though because all the money is gonna come through the engine license anyways, not the case with other games from other companies.

Because consoles have always been free of piracy? I'd say it's much harder and more time consuming to download a PC game then it is to rent and rip the Xbox version. But that's another thread....

IMO we need a federal agency that will prosecute thieves on the internet the same as thieves that walk out of the store with a physical copy of the game. Or do you pirates really think the small cost of cardboard and some optical media pushes game theft from a justified state to a crime?

Well for some of them, 55$US is a bit much for a videogame. And piracy is so mainstream and simplified now. Everything is just one click away

Maybe if all the assholes would buy their games, I wouldn't have to pay 55 dollars to buy it. The good news for the increasing prices, however, is pretty soon PC gaming will be dead and prices will be moot . Hope the fucktards are pleased then.

And since when did posting piracy information become accepted on GA. I see threads left-and-right. This was once a bannable offense.

Doom 1 and Doom 2 were the most pirated PC games titles ever. I actually am the only person on I know or met that actually bought Doom 2. Yet I think ID survived. Where you even there when Doom 1 / Doom2 came out? Do you think that games piracy started with bittorrent? You do realise that offline (aka in the street) piracy is even worse? A 20$ pcp chip enables you to run anything under the sun on consoles too.

The amount of people pirating games compared to the amount of people buying them is minimal. Even inexistant. You are posting on a hardcore gaming message board. We are all aware of the dark side of the internet. The mainstream public is not really that aware / interested of what you can get.

Videogames cost less than what they did back in the '80 and '90, and every year the industry announces record breaking total sales. EVERY YEAR.

I dont get it they have a ll the ips you know the file they are getting is legitly doom 3 (since it uses hash checks) just grab every IP and send evry isp a cease and desist order?

Because most of them who are downloading it right now are gonna buy it once their local stores gets it.

And pirates will not stop breathing if they can no longer steal games. If piracy stopped because of prosecution, you would survive. </retard logic>

All your points are irrelevant. All of them. At least I didn't have to look at Clinton this time. Doom1 and Doom2? When Dinosaurs roamed the earth. You bought Doom2. Good for you. I'm sure ID appreciates it but the fact that ID survived is irrelevant. When did I say piracy started with bittorrent? My reference to consoles were to Xenon, PS3, Revolution. As far as the amount of people pirating games compared to the amount of people buying them is irrelevant. A $10 million dollar loss is a $10 million dollar loss. This is a hardcore internet message board? Jesus lives. Why do you think I post here? The mainstream public grows more aware of what you can get. Record breaking sales? Irrelvant. If I could put millions more in your pocket despite what you make would you take it?

The internet not the biggest form of piracy for PC games? In a single day, the population of a small city is downloading doom 3 illegally.

The point is.. they lost millions of dollars off Doom 1 & 2 as well. So what's different? More widespread? Probably not.. since you could just install the game on your friend's computer.

face it, console piracing is just as bad. So many download games for xbox and Ps2.
I don't know about that, making a hardware modification is a lot harder than downloading a cracked version of a game.

I don't understand why your bitching. Doom III, along with every other blockbuster Xbox, PC, and PS2 game out there, are going to be pirated. Companies realize this, and they have so for more than a decade. But life goes on and the world keeps spinning, and you can bet your ass that more blockbuster titles are going to see the light of day years from now because whether or not these games are pirated, they still spell profit.

Piracy is a big issue and results in millions of dollars of loss, but it's nothing you and I as gamers should get pissed off about, especially since it hasn't stopped great video games from being made.

All I know is that I'll get my legit copy of Doom III in a few days, and I'll have nothing to worry about (other than getting a new gfx card)

Unless it's the justification for charging even higher MSRP (49.99 is too much). Why should I have to foot the bill for the fucktards?

And 1 look at the sales charts tells how it affects you. Only the mass market and online games sell anything anymore. When no one publishes PC games anymore, it'll affect people. Even the pirate bitches. And the third thing is, low PC sales = consolization to improve sales. The results can be Deus Ex:IW.

Doom 3 on a high-end machine

So this is doom 3 running on the following system:
Pentium 4 2400 533
512MB DDR 333
And of course the awesome Geforce 256 DDR released sometime in 1999

Framerates hover between 20 and 40 fps and it's very playable! Just a bit ugly...

Funny anecdote, John Carmack stated in that G4 TV "History of Doom" video they ran a week or two ago that the core technology of D3WM revolved around the Xbox.

ID will do with pirates the same thing that music company is doing with them - complain to the professional organization that handles this and let them deal with the suing. RIAA sues countless people with a passion - don't think that IDSA/ESA won't do the same. Game companies pay them money to handle these sorts of things.

This shit has been argued to death. Tell me why Nintendo still keeps its prices relatively high compared to both Xbox and PS2 when it comes to gamecube the least pirated platform for this generation. Fact of the matter is they set prices based on supply and demand with very little influence from outside factors like piracy. Anyways since I started gaming in the 80s prices for most games have been around 40-60 range. You want cheaper game prices freaking wait for it to drop or just become a smarter shopper, several stores had it below $50

Yeah I'm kinda angry that Doom3 is being sold a $54.99 at most retailers. The only store that I've been able to locate here (south Florida) for under $50 is Circuit City and they have it advertised for the 6th. Even Best Buy, which typically sells new released at cheaper than the MSRP, is selling the game at $54.99. Damn Activision and their knowledge that selling this game at a mere $5 more will have no impact on sales.

Hehe, yeah when you look at it from a supply and demand standpoint, piracy would make the price actually go DOWN (since the demand from consumers drops).

You clearly lack any understanding of what piracy really means to the industry. You're just a pawn of the media, believing whatever falsities it feeds you and believing its inept handling of the facts. The industry has no interest in prosecuting people who chosen to download the code as opposed to buying it. The industry knows these people have neither the funds nor the interest in the retail product to make a purchase, making lawsuits exceedingly unnecessary and overly expensive.

While you can sit there and call someone an "imbecile" for downloading something that's just one click away, why do you not focus your attention on the real problem: the providers of pirated software. I guess I could accuse your mental acumen of being well below par, but that would just be rude.
