Was the old War of the Worlds preview the worst ever?

I saw a preview for it a couple days ago. It actually makes the movie look very cool, suspenseful/scary even.

But the first was trash. There was literally nothing except a little girl riding in a minivan, and a microsecond of something interesting at the end. Why even release something like that?

New trailer def. put it on my radar though.

The thing you refer to was a teaser advertisement aired during the Super Bowl. Guess what it did? It teased you.

I have to say, everything I've seen so far for this movie has left me underwhelmed. I'm always willing to give Spielberg, ans Cruise, the benefit of the doubt, but this looks a lot like Indepence Day to me. I would have much rather have seen a faithful translation of the book set in Victorian England. I do like the way they updated the opening paragraph for the book to be the narration for the trailer however.

New trailer

With the new trailer, this looks like the best of Independence Day, the best of Deep Impact and the best of Signs. The grand scale of a massive invasion and America's reaction from the perspective of a father and his two kids. That's a pretty potent combination in my mind. I can't wait.

I'm looking forward to it because I LOVE the books and even enjoyed the TV series, so there is no way I can miss this one :)

They've really gotten away with showing next to nothing though.

Books??? TV Series??? Did I miss something? Isn't this an update of the classic HG Well's Novel?

The new trailer shows bits of the tripod and a decent view of the alien if you slow it down, so you might want to avoid if you want to wait and see those.
