With the incredibly dissapointing launch line up i really think that The xbox needs backwards compatibility to ensure that the early adopter and more importantly the casual gamers have something to freakin play on the damn system!! I mean the system is nice the specs are fine but by forcing gamers to play crap for the first year they're gonna seriously hamper their market penetration. And with sony pushing the xbox 1.5 line they're gonna look like sony is right. The casual guys are just gonna wait another few months for the ps3. Shit at this point I wouldn't be surprised if nintendo revolution beats the 360. Microsoft if your smart you'll work on a software solution for BC ASAP! Otherwise get ready for a short lived console life, mark these words.
