Excellent news.

Already got tickets for Sunday, just have to avoid any spoilers until then now, lol.

Watched it in IMAX.

It was cool, but I like what the movie is for the first half more than what it is after the reveal, it's almost a comedy at that point.

What level of comedy are we talking? Because comedy and horror can go together when done well.
I didn't dislike it if that's what you're wondering, it was cool from start to finish; it's just that I feel the movie it's alluding to be in the first half seemed more interesting to me.
As for the comedy, think of the goofier bits from barbarian.

Thats basically how I felt about Barbarian. Maybe not comedy but silly and every ounce of tension drained from the movie. Still worth watching but you have to go in not knowing what is going to happen.

Ok I just got out and while I think it is good, I don't think it is as good as either Talk to Me or Bring Her Back.

I think there was a huge wasted opportunity with using the people under her spell especially the kids. I expected the last half of the movie to be nothing but chaos but it turned out to be more comedic.

There were unanswered questions. How didnshe expect the kids to help? I was thinking maybe she's draining their blood to drink or bathe in it. Maybe eat them? Never answered or I was blind to it.

She tells the kid, pack up we're leaving. Does she plan to take all the kids, take only him?

I think the acting was good and it was building good suspense but I definitely would have liked a better explanation of intent.

I agree. I really liked up to the reveal I think and was let down a bit but more due to my expectation of what I thought would happen instead of what did happen.

Oh that's good to hear because Bring Her Back was ass (mediocre at the best of times) and Talk to Me was just ok. Excited for this one.

I liked both of these because I see the intent and I wanted to see how it played out. I don't like, well just because. The 2 things that bugged me about Talk to Me is I wanted to know how they got the hand and how they learned to use it.

Don't get me wrong, I have seen so many horror movies from slashers to thrillers (I'm over 50) and I like when they think outside the box a bit. (Like Hereditary or Midsommer) They aren't GREAT but keep you guessing. I think the problem with Weapons for me

was I had my own expectations building up for something that never came.

I do recommend seeing it because I really liked the acting.

Haha, I knew it would be exactly like Barbarian! Seems like all the screenwriters are great at writing openings, but suck at satisfactory endings.

Great movie, but I can't help but feel a little disappointed with the reveal that (major spoilers)
it's just some kind of voodoo. I was hoping for something even more crazy and outlandish considering her appearance in the dreams of a few characters and in the middle of a forest for no apparent reason (right before the crackhead stabs Han Solo in the face with needles :messenger_grinning_smiling: ).

But yeah, it's still a great and fun movie overall. Lives up to the hype better than Longlegs and Sinners did IMO

Just got out of the theater.

I liked this better than Barbarian. It wasn't going for the shock factor as much as that one did. Weapons seemed more confident and less gimmicky.

I got the impression that, more than anything, the movie wants to be entertaining rather than scary, and it pulled it off, for me. Likeable characters, GREAT acting, some tense scenes, some funny scenes, and good pacing. A story that actually took the time to answer some of the potential plot-hole questions I was asking while watching it play out.

The story went in the direction I thought it would, given the premise and the movie's title, but it was told well.

For people saying it's on par with Hereditary, I wholly disagree. But it is worth watching if you like modern "horror". A closer comparison would be Longlegs--except Weapons doesn't fall off a cliff into nonsense like that one did.

I'd watch what Zach Cregger does next for sure.

That's good to hear as I hated Barbarian

His next film is Resident Evil

His next movie is a Resident Evil movie.

And during the press tour for Weapons he said that he wrote a script for a DC film called Henchman but hasn't pitched it to DC yet... I'm sure James Gunn is already in the process of reaching out to him to make it a reality.

Oh, cool! I think he's a really good choice, thinking about it. I could see him nailing a version of Resident Evil that's got a balance of absurdity/humor and genuine tension. Just like what I appreciate about the RE series.

Well good news is he's a fan of the RE games and wants to make a good movie that fans will love

RLM review:

Don't have time to watch it right now but I'm sure they loved it
Edit: yep, they loved it. Also a mini Bring Her Back review in this video as well

That's all I needed to know! I was a tad worried there as Barbarian ended terrible, and folks saying it was like it deflated me somewhat

Right, Cinema tomorrow night it is then 🎬

This is the best time I've had in a theater since Parasite. Barbarian was solid but I didn't like the whiplash in tone. I think Weapons succeeds more in blending the comedic moments with the suspense. Loved it. It really scratched that Magnolia itch.

Could you take this image from the movie "Weapons" and replace the silhouette figure in the middle of the frame with a silhouette of [REPLACE WITH YOUR CHARACTER], again, this has to be a silhouette and the image must otherwise stay the same. Try to retain the overall look as well as possible.

Saw it today with my wife. I have no complaints towards it. I think it's not just a great horror film, but the best film of the year so far. Cinematography, sound, story, acting - it's top to bottom a tremendous film.

I would urge anyone that's interested to go see it in a theater. The visuals and audio/sound effects were meant for that experience.

3/4 - I loved it. The more I think about it, the more I'm able to poke holes at it, but I didn't largely CARE for how the evil works. I decided to be on along for the ride and loved the almost slapsticky ending.

Fantastic cast and performances. Although both my wife and I thought the main lady looked like young Justin Timberlake :D

Watched this yesterday.
For me, it was a slow burn and while I didn't hate the movie in the least I didn't come out of the theater loving it either.

For reference I hated Longlegs and I didn't regret my time watching Barbarian. For this I feel the same. I felt Barbarian was tighter (simply due to less characters) but overall I do not regret seeing this in the theater.

So pretty much 100% on "Gaf-o-meter" judging by this thread, huh?

I'm excited to watch it. It's hard to find a horror movie nowadays that's recognized as good by so many.

Didn't love Barbarian, thought the last act had too much comedy in it

Saw this today and had a fun time, cant say i was really scared by the movie but it definitely kept me engrossed throughout the whole 2 hour runtime. The ending was a bit goofy but I was satisfied by it.

This is a phenomenal movie. But Zach is known to use comedy in his horror. So go into it with that mindset

First time in the cinema for a while.

In what world does the fucking popcorn and a coke cost more than the ticket?

Short sell these idiots because they are going bump in the not too distant future.

Saw it last night on a date with a girl who really wanted to see this movie and I went in blind.
I tought the police or people in power were running a cult or something!!! 'Cause in the real world the house of the only kid
that didn't disappear that night would be surrounded by the press and the police, and in the USA the FBI would comb every inch of that house.
"So, there is an old lady no one saw before in the house and the parents of the kid are now zombie-like? Something weird is going on.
And all the windows in the house are now covered with newspaper and no one is doing maintenance to it even though they are still living in it? Something fucking weird is definitely going on!"
And the kid had to feed everyone, so he had to change their pants and bathe them as well? 'Cause the young mom would certainly need special care.
That old lady went through 4 houses running from the kids and couldnt lock herself in like a bathroom or something or ask for help? That whole thing was silly with her being torn apart Day of the dead-style.
Very well shot fun movie

That was my main issue with the movie. Think about it too hard and it falls apart quickly.

Overall It was fun, hardly a horror film though and certainly not on the same level as Bring Her Back.

7/10 Better than Barbarian.

clarky clarky

Did you watch Weapons yet?
Just out of the theatre, see above. Not my usual way of watching movies but stuck in a city alone and there was a cinema next door to my hotel and had a night to kill.

Need to think on it but It was enjoyable enough, better than Barbarian but not on the same level as Bring Her Back. A fat couple next to me spoiled it a bit though with the constant munching.

7 out of 10 I think. Quite a few plot holes that annoyed the hell out of me.

Saw it. I'm mixed on it.

Basically there is a narrative they went with started off intriguing had me hooked and as it went on I was bored with the back story, I wished they had the balls to just go with the witch narrative from the off. Not the convoluted way they did it in the film, Where they went round the houses. Then did the parasite/witch angle and the unintended hilarious ending of the film, also the overly feed spoilers "Witch" on the car the school teacher talking about parasites and a few characters watching a documentary about parasites and control.
The "Aunt" was a witch the salmon the floor etc. also she liked like Jimmy fucking Saville.

My wife and I walk away spending minimum $65+ to go to the movies if it's not a matinee. That's just tickets, drinks, and popcorn. On one hand, I want theaters to keep existing and thrive. On the other hand, it's a fucking racket and keeps me from going more frequently.

The hack frauds of RLM share the opinion I've read here and in other forums, that the ending was so worth it.
I didn't get it, is not like this is the first movie where the antagonist gets a taste of its own medicine.
And they also say that that part is meant to be a little silly, so when is this film supposed to be a horror movie? Most of the movie feels more like a thriller than a scary flick. She is just and old lady who practices witchcraft, not an all powerful paranormal entity. That she doesn't have a contingency plan for this kind of situations is beyond dumb.

Finally a movie that wasn't completely spelled out in the trailer. Love it. Audience went wild!

Really overrated but still a 7 to 8 out of 10 for me. Starts off incredibly strong then kind of goes off the rails. Really just a kind of a mess in the third act with lots of plot holes. Still would recommend because the first 2 thirds are quite strong.

Anybody scared to see it because of stuff online saying it really scary, don't believe it, it's actually super tame from a horror standpoint. About as scary as poltergeist (1984) or sixth sense.

I just watched this. It was ok but it seemed more like a comedy than a horror movie it has that same camp tone that you can't take seriously just like Barbarian had. This one had a few jump scares and some gore at the end. The plot made no sense
Why did the aunt need the kids?
Call me crazy but I preferred Barbarian. Bring Her Back reigns supreme.

I saw the trailer for the latest Conjuring, surprisingly it looked pretty good. Also saw the trailer for the new Avatar I rolled my eyes so hard. Did they have enough shots of the blue cat people about to shoot and arrow? The new "evil" tribe has what seemed to me a Nigerian accent because of course. Vapid vacuous shit he should have stopped at the first one. God I hate James Cameron all his Terminator 2 and Aliens goodwill was spent a long time ago
