Webcomics That You Should Read

As a disclaimer, these are high quality webcomics that I enjoy reading and would like others to read just to see that not all webcomics are utter shit.

However, this thread is not for webcomics that would be classified under "the norm". I read pvponline, penny arcade, real life comics, etc, stuff like that every day or two. I appreciate them because they consistently update every day or so, and are good for a chuckle. But this thread isn't for those type of comics.

I'm going to post a select few which exemplify some fucking quality. I suppose you can feel free to post a few webcomics that you really like, but odds are you're going to post something really stupid and shitty like Mega Tokyo or something, and I'm going to get all pissy and delete your post or close the thread and sulk about how you ruined my thread because you're a jerk.

So I suppose you can post your own favorites at your own risk. Replying with your own webcomics in this thread is like tapdancing on powerlines. You probably shouldn't do it, but you'll be damned if it doesn't impress others.

I'm sure that most of you have heard of at least one of these, but I'm sure others haven't. Lets get going.

Perry Fellow Bibleship

Yeah, this one doesn't really need much introduction on these forums. Constantly funny, original, and to the point strips, that are aided by some solid and often unrecognized (quality wise) art. Don't need to linger on this one.

Over Compensating

This is a fairly recent strip done by Jeffrey Rowland. It focuses on one guy and.. well, that's pretty much all the focus it has. Good for those who enjoying reading strips about a sort of carefree redneck type guy while harboring an out of state mind. This is sort of a fun little side project thing for Jeffrey Rowland, since his main strip is...

WIGU

This is the big one. It's been going on since January 2002, and has absolutely awesome characters and storylines. The latest storyline has Hugo and his nihilistic goth sister kidnapped by conjoined twins attempting to sacrifice a schoolbus load of children in the name of God. This somehow leads to his sister becoming a holy patriarch, the public realizing she isn't turns into a murderous mob which causes that little yellow alien and blue horse (he's a space sheriff pony) to enter Hugo's universe in order to protect them. And all that's about 1/50th of the entire storyline. It's fucking nuts, and if you enjoy sitting down when you're bored and reading through archives of interesting strips, this is definitely the one you want to check out.

Men In Hats

Another forum familiar, Men in Hats lacks continuance, and is pretty much a character.. not study, but showcase. If you don't mind the amount and weight of text in the above strip, you should enjoy it. It seems to be dead now, but has a healthy archive. And speaking of dead strips..

The Parking Lot is Full

A motherfucking classic, and easily tied for the comic strip I miss the most (tied with Calvin and Hobbes). He stopped making new ones in 2002, but started in 93, so there's tons to sift through. As evident in the later strips, the guy is fucking nuts, but also god damn hilarious. Just read them all. Seriously.

And finally, A Lesson is Learned but the Damage is Irreversable

This one is just god damn beautifully drawn. There is some semblence of a constant universe in there, but it's not important. Pretty damned abstract, but a fun experience to look at. It just started comparitively recently, so there are only a dozen or so strips, but still worth it.

So there you go. First guy to post anything remotely anime related gets banned like a bitch.

edit: sorry, fixed the URLs

Mama Smurf

My penis is still intact.
That last comic (the specific strip), I love. I've seen it before, but it's so twistedly awesome that it never gets old.

Perry Bible Fellowship, A Lesson is Learned but the Damage is Irreversable, and Men in Hats are great. Unfortunately, I can't remember what the name of that strip that was drawn by a friend of a GAFer. It was pretty funny, but I lost all my bookmarks, so I can't find it. :(

The author has a few great ideas (When cats always land on their feet and breads always land on the side with marmalade on it, what happens if you strap a marmalade bread on the back of a cat and drop it from a skyscraper?).

The author didn't have that idea. In fact, I believe that idea predates skyscrapers. And marmalade. And possibly cats.

needs to show more effort.
not sure how 'mainstream' it is but I always liked machall. Always reminded me of me and my friends and also the guy has moments of extreme brilliance at times when it comes to art.

I like to read White Ninja Comics. http://www.whiteninjacomics.com

If one examines the substructuralist paradigm of White Ninja, one is faced with a choice: either accept surrealism or conclude that discourse must come from communication, but only if the premise of textual capitalism is invalid; otherwise, we can assume that the media is capable of social comment. The primary theme of the works of White Ninja is the meaninglessness, and eventually the defining characteristic, of posttextual language. Thus, if the substructuralist paradigm of narrative holds, we have to choose between textual capitalism and semioticist discourse.

Alright, lets try this again.

1) THOUGH I DO ENJOY THEM, do NOT post comics like PVPonline or CTRL-ALT-DELETE. These are not the kind of comics I want in this thread. It is very easy to see the difference between PLIF, White Ninja, PFB, and stuff like PVP. Okay? Okay.

2) Do not gay up this thread by bitching about what comics displayed suck. If you don't like Get Your War On or Men in Hats or whatever, writes a letter about it and mail it to yourself. Criticism and healthy objectivity is welcomed in every thread on the forum but this one. This is just about posting awesome and somewhat abstract webcomics.

3) You motherfuckers that posted Goombas will rue the day.

4) If you do post a comic, PLEASE take the time to post an image of said comic. If the site doesn't allow direct linking, feel free to use this site to upload it onto.

5) For Christ sake, to the guy who posted nothing but IAWTP, is this really the thread to do this in? REALLY?

6) Thank you to those who actually posted worthwhile webcomics that actually fit the fucking criteria. It's getting to the point where I'm going to have to reward the dudes who posted Get Your War On, Copper (I'd never heard of this one before, it's cool), and White Ninja (how did I forget that?). Mac Hall is awfully fucking close to landing in the anime section, but it's not quite there, and is drawn quite nicely, so it barely stays.

I pass!

out of curiousity, how long do images remain on that fuckyouanddie site?
Forever.

And yeah, Copper is really beautifully drawn at times. I love the right hand side of the last panel in this one;

My favourite is Yahtzee Takes On The World. I don't like most (web)comics because they're too cluttered and not funny, but this one is definitely worth looking at. It's finished so you can sit down and read the whole story. It's about a guy and his loser friends constantly trying to take over the world, with hilarious British humour throughout. It starts off black and white, but get gets Photoshop soon and the quality goes right up. The drawings are clear and simple, and the humour and plot don't get in the way of each other. Check it out.

The guys also has a humour site which he still works on (www.fullyramblomatic.com)
