Went to an EA presentation at Mc Gill University yesterday...

The guy that gave the presentation was a representative of ea in universities(from what I understood). THere was also the producer of Medal of Honor(an old dude, can'T remember his name). Here's what I gathered as info for all of you.

1- They bought Criterion for many reasons : They'll make Renderware their Standardized Engine. Just as Microsoft, they want to standardize everything that's going on in the industry.

2- The Rep called BS on Nintendo's claim that videogames are becoming stale.

3- Content is king... But this is where I argued with the rep. If they keep putting out Sequels over and over again, the content becomes stale and less interesting.

4- Confirmed Xbox 2's coming out by christmas 2005.

Oh he was a complete sell out to EA.

hmm McGill

well anyway this part makes has me thinking...

Finally, it is confirmed now that it will be out by Christmas. Now I am guessing Sony and Nintendo will release their next-gen console around March of '06.

need for speed in 60fps -> hell yeah, then there is no need for speed anymore :D

If he weren't a complete sell-out, he wouldn't be giving the presentation; I think this is pretty much true of almost any company.

Spit in a man's face for doing his job?Amazing.
If my job was killing babies (this is nothing about abortion, just killing already born babies) wouldn't you want to spit in my face? Because somebody does something for money, doesn't make it any more right. In fact, according to many people, it would make it a greater sin.

Nah, I'd guess more like the last quarter (not fiscal) of 2006. March seems a bit too early.

wow, so you equate working for EA to killing babies? That's a bit of a stretch.

Do you need a special invite to those? Can anyone go or do you really need to be a student or professor?

Hm, well I retrieved the announcement for mine. I assume it's open to many, but you need special entry to get in to my campus.

Was the old guy named Tarney? A little fat, balding, curly haired?

The one I know is not fat or balding, although I guess his hair might be a bit curly. You sure you got your names and faces right?

What do they think about UAT, Digipen, or Full Sail?

Bookerman, what exactly did he say to you arguing his claim that 'content is king' for EA? (should be a laugh)

They need a new crop of fresh recruits that they can work to death and then let go when their spouses complain on the internet...

EA are in a blast of PR because they know they are even less loved than previous year (as if you could go lower than that already).

They are going to talk at Capital Action on RDI on radio canada this week (forgot the exact day). Just check their web site as they usually have their broadcast downloadable after.

They sent me a $15 coupon for their online store for my birthday. Seeing that i'd rather eat my own excrement than buy an EA game, i'll give the code to the first one who PMs me....

The only EA games I own are Marble Madness and NBA Live 99 (Live 99 for the PC) :lol

:lol, it's funny cause when asked about EA_Spouse, he said they were looking at the problem trying to resolve it.... thus it means they won't do shit.

EA hasn't come here yet. (DigiPen) They didn't come to our career day. Neversoft did. Big Huge Games. NST. :LOL I guess some more are this year, but a lot of the students here know what EA is doing. It's just a running joke at this point. Hell, I'd be excited if they came, because the people here would really go to town of the rep.
A rep went to my girlfriend's university (U of Calgary) and gave a speech a while back. He admitted they look for companies for other ideas and never make their own.
