What’s the consensus on KH3 story?

I m playing kingdom heart 3 at the moment . This is my first KH game ever. Game play is kinda fun and easy and flashy which is cool. However I noticed the story is on another level. Having a silly sounding duck or Nicky talk to me about "your nothing self" and organization 13 and different versions of myself and having multiple heart is a bit too much .😂

At no point in the dev cycle, anyone told the story writer that having such serious convoluted story Mixed with these light hearted silly cartoon character is kinda jarring?

maybe it's just me but it could have been much more fun with a funny straight forward story line.

what's your take on it ?

It's the culmination of everything wrong with Japanese storytelling since Final Fantasy IX.

Not that Japanese games don't tell good stories anymore. It's just that THIS game sums up everything that can go wrong. It's like a bad version of Murphy's Law wrapped in a single video game.

It's a great example of everything you should NOT do when telling a story.

This game should be mandatory in writing classes all over the world. I want to believe the word clusterfuck was created solely for describing Kingdom Heart's story.

its fucking awful. Initially, it was cool. An insane idea, but it worked. And it was fairly simplistic too with its story, which fit the game well. Afterall, you'd have a lot of children play a game with Disney characters.
But then it got progressively more and more contrived, corny, bizarre, long winded and even complicated. I played through KH3. I enjoyed it somewhat, the gameplay was pretty fun and the disney worlds were cool visually. But dear god the cutscenes.... and so many of them.... and they just go on and on and on.... seriously, who the fuck is this aimed at? Children would find it boring/confusing, whereas I'd like to think that most adults would probably cringe their hearts out, unless they've literally grown up with the series. But even then, they still might.

Thats how i m feeling as i play this game. Whenever they talk i m like what the fuck is going on ? And so many refrence to characters from last game . Just think of new comers for a second haha

Kingdom Hearts story can be convoluted and nonsensical but I personally find them entertaining but it's absolutely not type of game you can just jump in to 3rd game without playing previous games.

Tetsuya Nomura and Kazushige Nojima got people born in the 90s held captive by an absolutely embarrassing narrative. Of course people will pretend it's good but it really isn't.

Kingdom hearts, story? What? I'm pretty sure its all just random stuff in Disney / square-based worlds.

Don't even bother try to understand it, it's not worth it.

I don't know how anyone can find the story of KH3 enjoyable in any shape or form. The clusterfuck and train wreck that is is is comparable to no man sky on release date. You're better of playing every other kh game and just pretend like 3 doesn't exist as it will only make you sad because it does exist and fail to deliver a somewhat enjoyable story or even gameplay. The explanation and enjoyment is on the levels of mass effect 3 endings.

Stop while you can, burn the disk and erase this game from your chain of memories.

In concept and paper it sounds really cool, but once you dive in the games, each games makes it more difficult to understand the story, specially when they introduced time travel and the 13 Xehanorts.

KH3 is actually a very pretty and flashy game, but an extremely easy one. It fails hard because it's no challenge at all and it stopped being a crossover between Disney and FF Series, just to be a Disney show-off videogame.

Except for the final boss which is completely different in terms of difficulty.

If it had a simple storyline it would lose a lot of the appeal that makes Kingdom Hearts interesting. Trying to figure out as much as you can is what keeps me coming back ignoring the repetitive and sometimes boring gameplay.
ALthugh I have to admit sometimes their narrative gets ridiculous but still, Look at it as a fractal story or as what some academics call "game films" (memento ie.)

I'm trying to come up with a sentence that uses the word "heart" as much as possible while also being funny, but really, nothing could come close to the actual KH. KH3 went to lengths I didn't believe possible. It's the most contrived self-aggrandizing mess I've seen in a video game, ever. It's the definitive incarnation of the meme "there was a point where we should have stopped and we've clearly passed it, so let's keep going and see what happens", LOL.

KH1 is still enjoyable today apart from some very obnoxious gameplay sections, but 3 is something else. I mean, in the final section of the game there's like 6 deus ex machina in the space of an hour. At one point I just wanted the damn thing to be over.

Although, the more I think about it, it sort of proves your point!

I like it personally, despite Nomura tendency to add more secrets to be solved another day

Buuuuuut I can see why people don't like it and I can pretty much pinpoint the exact moment when they decided to give up

The entirety of Kingdom Hearts is such a convoluted mess I would say the more you pull back and look at it from afar it's essentially a story made of diarrhea which includes Disney content.

It's more fun to watch videos of people trying to fully explain the plot because it's such a fucked up mess there's no way to not just throw your hands up in confusion.

I haven't played KH3 yet, so I'm wondering, to all people who hated the story in KH3 and found it cringe, did you think the same about all the previous games?
Because I enjoyed the story in the previous games, mainly in 2, Birth By Sleep and 356/2.

Is it really worse than in those games or is it just that you never liked the lore of kingdom hearts?

I agree that it can be convulted sometimes, but I think it usually works well enough, you just really have to accept that it's not rooted in our reality with our laws of physics and everything, that souls are something that can be removed from someone and is moldable, stuff like this, if you are not willing to accept the different "laws" of the kingdom hearts lore, then you're never going to be into it for sure.

It was good in part 1 only. After that it became a mess as square tried to turn it into the biggest cash grab since final fantasy vii the remake episode one $300 collector's edition.

The story in KH3 is pretty shit. It's a bad game all around in my opinion. Looks great though.
I should say I enjoyed KH and KH2.

I would say a mix bag. I kinda feel like its an interesting comeback concept talking about Replicas. This further enhances the Replica program from Vexen and how this could explain more details about Xion.

But on the otherside this "Keyblade War" was very pony. I though they would desperatly need more Keyblade wielders to aid in the biggest of fight against Xenahort. Taking the scale of the first one, I could only imagine the second one being at the same level at least. But its turns out very lame. Not to mention the crazy idea about past version of himself even more crazier when they bring Riku Replica from another time period...would be better if they used more Keyblade wielders instead(I mean, Xenahort has 4 on his team).

I hope the DLC at least bring more about this story...because the mystery about the Black box is becoming ridiculous at this point.

I think 3D stole most of it's thunder. As most of it's major plot twists and details were already revealed in that game, which didn't leave much story left for 3 to tell. In fact 3 just feels like a direct continuation of that story rather then a proper sequel.

Kingdom Hearts writing is bad, yes, but Final Fantasy IX is excellent. Different writer too.

Baten Kaitos games have good writing.

It's the most embarrassing excuse for a story ever. The dialogue is extremely cringey. The overarching story makes 0 sense and the characters are all unlikable. Hard pass.

It stays true to the high narrative standards for which the Kingdom Hearts series has always been known.

I meant that AFTER FFIX the writing in JRPG's went down the drain, culminating in the word diarrhea that is the Kingdom Hearts series.

Sorry for the confusion.
