What’s your favorite PS2 game?

It's easy to remember the big games like GTA, MGS, GoW, SH2, FF and whatnot. But were they your favorite?

Did something less remembered like The Warriors, Mark of Kri, or Socom strike your fancy more?

I think back to that system and for some reason, Shadow Hearts is what always comes to mind.

What's your favorite PS2 game?

I'd probably have to go with Shadow of the Colossus or God of War 1 & 2.

Metal Gear Solid 2 came to mind first. I had an Xbox and a Gamecube already, but I couldn't stand not being able to play MGS2, so I bought a PS2 used.

I was too young and not well-versed in tech to understand the ending prophetic conversation with Rose, Colonel, and Raiden, but I'm still glad I got to play it contemporaneously.

It's always between these two:

PS2 is the hardest library to choose though. When I look at my Steam categories for all my older game collection I'm emulating, every other system is below 100, but my PS2 game list is 141. GOAT console.

It's hard to choose between Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King and Silent Hill 2.
But honestly, the PS2 game library is so strong that choosing just one game is simply an impossible task.

Metal Gear Solid 2 as time has gone on, but when it was the PS2 golden era I would say Persona 4.

Both are timeless classics imo.

Simpsons Hit and Run. Not a super fan of the series, but it was just plain fun.

Honorary mentions for Aggressive Inline, Everybody's Golf 4, Sly Cooper Trilogy, Jak & Daxter Trilogy.
Ape Escape 3 too, but it aged horribly. The controls feels like pulling teeth today.

As much as I loved the OG Xbox back in the day, man, that PS2 library just couldn't be beaten...

ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, MGS2 & 3, Zone of the enders 2, the 4 Onimushas, the DMCs, Silent Hill 2 and 3, Chaos Legion (I know), the FFs, the Ace Combats the Viewtiful Joe's, RE4...you get my point.

Maybe it's nostalgia but that quality and quantity is something which we'll never experience again taking into account that games take 5+ years to make nowadays.

TLDR : can't just pick one

Tough, tough question, but Shadow of the Colossus is what comes to mind first and the one I've replayed the most. Shout outs to Silent Hil 2, San Andreas, Ico, MGS2/3, and Shadow Hearts.

Not my favorite (dunno what that'd be) but I want to give a shout out to the Digital Devil Saga games.

ObsCure. Music license shenanigans has rendered it the only good version. Everything else worth its salt has been rereleased on another system.

Pick a single jewel from the embarrassment of riches that is the PS2 library? Impossible I tell you, IMPOSSIBLE! Simply cannot be done oh alright God Hand.

It's genuinely too difficult to pick a favorite. Final Fantasy X, Metal Gear Solid 2, Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne, Persona 4, etc - hard to pick a winner. I think it just depends on what mood I'm in at that particular point in time.

Omg, I don't know why this popped up in my head but, back when I managed a Blockbuster Video, I had a girl that called Lethal Skies, "Lethal Ski's."

My hommie and I laughed at her so damn hard.

Lethal Skies was an Ace/Air Combat knockoff on the PS2.

Persona 4

Which is also my favorite game of all time (technically Golden is my favorite if we want to get semantic). After that I would say MGS3 and Gran Turismo 4.
Agreed on P4. Already beat it 4 times and recently watched the animation. I'll also add Command & Conquer Generals here since it came out on PC but same era. I played the shit out of that game.

Final Fantasy X (played it again recently and it really holds up).
But PS2 has such and amazing library (Burnout 3: Takedown, Shadow of the Colossus, Devil May Cry 3, God of War 2, ZOE2, Gran Turismo 4, Tekken 5, KH2, RE4, Klonoa 2, Sly 2, Jak) that it's almost impossible to choose just 1.

If I'm not going with the obvious picks like FFX (that's my real honest answer), then Shadow of the Colossus. Such an amazing game.

But yeah, it's an embarrassment of riches. PS2 was astounding.
