What Are Your Favourite Memories of the Xbox Golden Age (360)?

Probably when my twin brother bought Left 4 Dead 2 (fantastic game btw).

Back at these days, I had not experienced or even played a proper FPS. But since my brother love to play Left 4 Dead 2 and needed help for the hardest difficulty, he asked me to help. Which was more like forced. And since I didn't have any experience whatsoever, we died incredibly often either because of my friendly fire or me dying way too soon in the first parts(each campaign level generally has 4 chapters). Note that at that time we used to take gaming seriously, so dying or doing miss plays would result in my brother being like that:

While me would be looking like that:

Over time I did get better and eventually loved playing this game. We both manage to actually beat L4D2 on the hardest difficulty on all chapters, DLC included. My older brother eventually got very interested in the game and soon than later called his best friend to come play coop (which prompted him to buy his own controller). Same thing happened between them though.

I think Crackdown was the most fun I had on the 360...Then I had 2 units Red Ring on me and that was the end of my Microsoft game console experience.

Xbox Live, its one statement one message! Then games Like Mass Effect and Bioshock and Oblivion. Halo 3 was the face of Xbox Live!

I was very late to the party, 2012 or so I think was when I got my first Xbox, but standout recolections-

- Playing Bayonetta and having my mind blown by how vastly superior it was to the PS3 version
- Realising that most 360 games did in fact run better than they did on PS3
- Impulse purchasing Lost Odyssey dirt cheap knowing nothing about it, not realising that it was basically an unofficial Final Fantasy game
- Lapping up all the cool exclusive ports like Guardian Heroes, Radiant Silvergun, and Perfect Dark

Good times

For me the Xbox golden age was the latter half of the OG Xbox generation and the first 3-4 years of the 360 gen. Highlighted by Ninja Gaiden Black on the OG.

Peter Moore, J Allard, Seamus Blackley, Laura Fryer, etc made a few mistakes, but they seemed to have their hearts in the right place, and they had genuine passion for games and had a far better understanding of the industry than Mattrick, Spencer and so on.

I was on the 2nd shipment at EB Games. I had Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo, and Condemned Criminal Origin. My dad went all out for me. It RROD on me, but I finished Condemned.

A big moment for me was Final Fantasy XI's beta. You got the disc from the OXM. I played that for the entire run of the beta. I got my Chocobo and was running around Juno when it ended. That was a good time. Another was playing DOA4 when it came out and getting to play Master. The guy went to the Cyber World Games on Direct TV and I think he works at Tecmo now.

Big games like The Elder Scrolls IV. I watched GameSpot's big stream they did before it came out. I remember having to hold down a button during loading screens to clear the cache.

Notable launches were Gears of War. I went to the midnight launch and watched the video recorded by Epic Games. I had BioShock and Mass Effect at launch. It was a good system for many years.

Marble Blast Ultra was one of the best games I played on XBL. I miss that game. It can be played on PC, but it's not the same.

My best memories was purchasing an exclusive game at midnight that was only on the 360 and chatting with my friends while playing the game via Xbox Live. Midnight of Halo 3 in particular. Hears 2 was awesome too!

Can't forget when Fallout 3came out and then Gears of War 2. Those were some fun times. Exploring the wastelands of Fallout and then smoking Locust. I remember using the Hammer of Dawn like no one else thought of a portable satellite laser in the palm of your hand.

Team Fortress 2 through The Orange Box

Co-op Dead Rising 2

Wild west lobbies in CoD Modern Warfare 2

Playing campaigns in Left 4 Dead 2

Experiencing Viva Piñata

The beauty of El Shaddai

The absurdity of Deadly Premonition

Descending into Rapture for the first time in Bioshock

Frequent Rock Band nights with friends

Discovering Indie gems like Super Meat Boy and Limbo through Summer of Arcade and related promotions.

It was a time like no other. I remember at the time feeling like we had too many derivative first person shooters but in hindsight, when you look at the sheer quantity and quality of experiences, this may have been gaming's peak. 360 and PS3 were forces to be reckoned with. Only the Wii was a weak link after its first few years but even then it had some incredible games too.

Experiencing Mass Effect Trilogy was something. A big budget Sci Fi Opera WRPG with an actually great cast and planets and towns you can explore. Yes the third game dropped the ball in regard to the ending but the whole trilogy was a a fun journey for me. I had a PS3 at the time but I played the game on XBox 360 due to my saves carrying over

Blue Dragon being the first game I experienced in HD. Looked like a Dragon Ball Cartoon come to life. It was awesome

There's a lot more but I'm too lazy to type them all out

Add Magna Carta 2 (still only playable on Xbox 360 as its not BC).
Also the Artwork was done by the CEO of Shift Up.......imagine if MS had kept the relationships with Asian studios alive how powerful they would be by now.

Considering their shift to Console Exclusive and PC they would be the "known" guys for making games for Asia by now.

The Kinect was such a mistake and MS simply relying on thirdparties to do everything was basically the end of the Xbox being in real contention........the Xbox One E3 was something else.

<----Still bought an Xbox One.

I never played Magna Carta 2 but I always wanted to play it. I do find it funny how the artist of the games ended up being the CEO of Shift Up

Exactly if MS had kept relationships with Asian devs, he would have been friends with MS reps and would have likely been funded by them for his first major console game.

I never had an OG Xbox but I think almost everything listed is backwards compatible on the 360 which is where I played them because those games were damn cheap (and great) at the time. Backwards compatibility although limited was a great feature of the 360 and because it was a general emulator allowed games to be BC that still not BC on newer Xbox consoles. Jet Set Radio Future.

It actually boosted games too. Though a lot of classic Xbox games were 480p or even 720p. A tad buggy and glitchy here and there, but I could play NG with hurricane packs and NGB just fine enough to beat them. Also played SF3 and Halo 2 online during those early days.

Dead or Alive Ultimate still holds up even today. Doom 3 and the expansion was good before a native port came to 360 years later.

Probably Halo 3 was the best thing ever

Online chat with cursing, jokes, music... People just wanted to have fun. The right thing at the right time, that unfortunately would be a matter of time to end

the best part is there is no wrong choice between choose either PS3 or Xbox 360.

both are equal each others in term of performance and content.

it is much simple that time. all about having great games.

Was a huge PS2 fan att but the 360 is where it was at for about two years. Gears of War is the game that best represents the start of the 360 era. Followed closely by Fight Night Round 3, a game that looked so next-gen I couldn't believe my eyes while playing. Two other games I strongly associated with this time are Lost Planet where you could leap onto huge enemies (like Shadow of the Colossus we thought at the time). The other is Geometry Wars which ignited my love for twin-stick-shooters that I still have today.

That generation was fantastic.
The tech still felt like it was getting better and better.
The games were still new and creative.
Exclusives mattered.
Competition between PS3 and 360 was fierce.

No generation was perfect. The online pass thing was crazy, and towards the end you got bombarded by sequels.
But it easily beat the Xbox One and the current gen.

The controller was great, even is today. My PC controller is still a cabled 360 one. No bulky battery box, like on the console ones and those shoulder triggers have a nice spring in it, unlike the mushy thing Sony always uses. The d-pad sucks balls though and I don't like the concave sticks now everyone does.

trials would have been a worse game on a ds3

I went through 3 of them, and it didn't bother me.
The Red Ring of Death was a part of the 360's charm.

I remember game forums back then listing out different 360 models, and which ones were less prone to failure.
It was good times.

Getting Modern Warfare 2 a day early, then going into school and being the talk of the playground because everyone saw I was online playing it.

COD4 game battles culture, the young people on voice chat was fine, we all know ODST Firefight was the best, really loved RE5 Mercenaries.
