It's gonna be wild if Nintendo actually develop a DK platformer (be it 3D or 2D) in-house in Japan. The last time that happened was Donkey Kong for the GameBoy, afaik.

I'm not sure this kind of chunky design would fit a platformer. The character needs to feel flexibel.

I actually really dig how it recalls classic pre-DKC Donkey Kong designs.

That said, it's such a departure from how DK has been portrayed for the last three decades that it makes me suspect that we're going to get multiple character skins in this game and we're look at "Classic Donkey Kong" or "Donkey Kong '83" or something.

I can still clearly remember when the original Donkey Kong arcade game landed, so the DKC version has always been a re-design in my mind, I never gave much of a shit about that version of the character. This new version looks fine to me. I saw the Mario movie twice, yet I have no recollection of what DK looked like in it.

As i said in the reveal thread of the new mario kart. The redesign is donkey kong PTSD version. His eyes look horrible and he has like 0 expression on his face. Idk wth they were thinking with this redesign and i feel like the japanese audience are going to be pissed 'i'm kinda annoyed by it too'.
