So I've seen alot of people saying ffdshow is a good decoder for dvd/mpg playback when scaling to large sizes. So I download it, but have no idea what I need to do with the files. I usually use VLC for video playback if that helps.

Just install it and boom, you're set. It comes with MP Classic typically and that's a good player for video files.

I don't think it comes with WMP classic, thats the klite codec pack.


I think ffdshow playes on windows media player, real player and what ever you use.

Oops, I was thinking of Real Alternative that comes with MP Classic. Well get ffdshow (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=53761&package_id=48261) and then Real Alternative (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm) and you should be good. If you just want MP Classic, it's here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358. ffdshow though will work for basically anything including the original WMP, etc.
