What GBA games are good that aren't...

side-scrollers or RPGs?

People always talk about the amazing lineup, and I'd love to add a few more games to my GBA collection, but it seems like a lot of side-scrolling, old-school 2D games. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but that's not a genre I'll ever stock up on. Probably pick up the Castlevania 2-pack, which will be more than enough for me.

Boktai 1 and 2
Medal of Honor: Infiltrator (seriously)
Mario vs Donkey Kong
Wario Ware

There are a lot of games that are technically "sidescrollers" but are more like action, platformer, or puzzle games in their gameplay, like Astro Boy, the CT Special Forces titles, Metal Slug Advance, the Metroids and CVs, and the Klonoas..

Advance Wars
Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising
Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and the Four Swords
Kuru Kuru Kururin
Kururin Paradise
Mario Golf: Advance Tour
Mario Tennis: Power Tour

Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising
Mario Tennis: Power Tour (close enough to not being an RPG, anyway)
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Racing Gears Advance is a classic in the top-down RC Pro Am/Micro Machines style -- great play control, cool (licensed!) cars, unlockable characters, a good license/upgrade scheme, decent weapon selection, and fantastic track designs. It also has probably the most detailed, impressive art on the GBA (realtime shadows omg!).

It also has had its price dropped to $20 everywhere. Buy it goddammit!

(I don't work for Orbital, but I'm happy to shill for them. That kind of attention to detail rarely surfaces in console games, much less handhelds, and I want them to stay in business as an indie doing original IPs for as long as possible.)
