I swear, up to the early 2000's the classification for being part of 'gen X' was 1965 to 1981, with 1982 being the start of the millennial generation. But this shifted for some unknown reason (unknown for me) to 1965 to 1980. For the longest time, I assumed I was part of generation x. I was born February 14th 1981. Right at the cusp of the re-classified millennial generation.

Who are the authorities on these generational classifications anyway? What group is responsible for deciding when a generation starts and ends? Where do they even come up with the non-forward thinking naming schemes?

I'm barely an X technically but I feel much more attached 70s media than 90s so there's always an element of personal attitude.

'X' was chosen for effect rather than logic, then they just went 'shit well I guess the next one's Y'.
