What is a 3-D Rectangle called (the technical term)?

Is it a rectanglular prism?

A 3-D square is a Cube
A 3-D circle is a Sphere
A 3-D triangle is a Pyramid
A 3-D rounded rectangle is a Cylinder (no sides except for the two ends that are circles)

I know what cone is as well. But I have no idea what a 3-D rectangle is?

Yup -- rectangular prism is correct.

Also note that "pyramid" doesn't necessarily mean that all sides are triangles -- it can have any arbitrary polygon as a base, as long as the other sides are triangles. A 3-D shape where all sides are triangles is called a triangular pyramid, and if all sides are congruent equilateral triangles, a tetrahedron.

Rectangular prism seems like an odd name for it to me. What's wrong with cuboid?
Hadn't heard that term before, but that's as good as any. Thinking about this more, in order to specify that ALL the sides are rectangles, you'd have to say "right rectangular prism," which is a mouthful.

what? that's basic geometry..

tetrahedron ? never heard of it before. but my comment was a more general.. you know too much stuff. jinx always has something knowledgeable to say in threads asking for information. :)

And if the length is pi times longer than the depth minus the width it's called a right reverend paraplegic
I thought it was a "right rear-end paralegal?" I get so confused these days...

Then, what is it if the base is a triangle?
Does anyone read what I write, or should I give up now?

My fault jinx, I overlooked that part. However, I thought I heard someone say it was called a triangular prism? Is the correct too? That's why I was confused.
