What is a game you want to get into but it just doesn't click?

Ys IX
Really tried to like this game, but they went overboard with the forced side quests.
Way too much padding.
I loved all the older ones, but this one didn't set well with me at all.

Platinum's games.
I'd be in for the craziness and the show, but they demand way too much. You're xpected to do in the first stage what most other games would expect you to be moderately capable of doing 80% through. Not even Souls games expect so much.

Returnal. I love the atmosphere. I love the combat and feel of the gameplay. I just hate roguelikes. I've tried multiple times to get into it and it just isn't for me. Roguelikes are my kryptonite. They are antithetical to so many things I love in my gaming experiences. If this wasn't a roguelike and it was an action game or an action RPG I'd absolutely love it. But alas.
I'd like to second everything you said here however if you're a member of PlayStation Plus and have access to cloud saves you can play Returnal like a standard single player game without any of the roguelitr nonsense.

I was similarly turned off by The game's roguelite structure, I hate random level layout nonsense, and quit the game early on out of frustration.

But then I went back to it using the save scum method and I was able to play the entire game the way I wanted to. I'm really glad I did too because if you play it as a linear game it's how I'd imagined a Metroid spiritual successor and it's AWESOME!

Do yourself a favor, look up save scumming and play it this way. I'd easily rank it in my top five PlayStation 5 games and I hate hearing anyone missing out on it. It's really one of the best games I've ever played!

Twice now I've tried to get into Expedition 33 and I've dropped it twice. Perhaps I haven't been in the right headspace for it this year, but I dropped it just after Act 1 back in May just after it released. Then I dropped it again midway through Act 2 last month. The story is intriguing, most of it is, but after playing turn-based JRPGs for the last 30 years, the combat system bores me to death. The novelty of it wore off after a couple of hours and the thought of going back to it fills me with zero excitement.

Breath of the Wild is another one. It might sound extremely counter-intuitive, but the open-world is too open, and I'm not a big fan of the art-style. It's not that I don't like an open-world game that doesn't hold your hand either, Elden Ring's one of my 3 greatest games of all-time.

Halo is a real challenge, most recently Infinite, tough game, which is weird halo 3 was everything in middle school, heroic mode, game battles etc. the multiplayer today with infinite is a scramble for kills, hard to get kills, it's just not for me but a very nice looking game.

Allof the modern Naughty Dog stuff.
Uncharted, Last of Us.
I played them all. But didn't enjoy a single one.
The shooting is beyond terrible. The game is linear to a point where you half the game is just holding UP on the stick while your guy climbs up walls. Then you get a cut scene. Then you shoot some dudes. Repeat for 12 hours.
Terrible games.
But the world loves them. So apparently I'm wrong.

Red Dead Redemption 2.

Absolutely gorgeous by my god does it have just dull combat and trying to do anything in the game is just so slow for the sake of realism.

I agree with this.

I finally bought RDR2 in the last Steam sale with the intent to finally play this critically loved game. And after 15 hours played I'm somewhat lukewarm about it. The game environment is gorgeous, the voice acting and world is lively, some side quests have been fun so far, but the main story feels blah to me and the controls and combat mechanics are pretty terrible IMHO. It's been quite the mixed bag for me and I'm having a hard time continuing to play it, I just keep playing other stuff instead.

Wish I liked it more. 🤔
