What is a game you want to get into but it just doesn't click?

Most high production adventure games. I get very excited to jump into them but find myself annoyed by the speed of progression and having to look up unintuitive puzzles. I can do moderately difficult ones but some require a leap in logic that I cannot make.
 
2d fighting games, they all look the same to me on a mechanical level.

There's 100 different combos, mechanics and meters, how can you even remember any of them?

Resident evil, I love the game design and combat, but i just don't like zombies.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Pain

I finished the main game when it came out. I have been trying to convince myself to rebuy it on Steam each time it's on sale and play through the PP, but the game is just so bland. I literally have difficulty remembering any meme or able quest from this game except that people on the farm one.

Resident Evil 7 and 8. I just couldn't get on with first person, 3rd person for 8 just feels like the character has been stuck on screen. I'm hoping 9 will be better in 3rd person.
 
most slashy games where there's not really any dynamics to the combat.

so like dynasty warrior type games. not just Muso's in general though, there's many action slashy games where the combat just feels like im pressing square over and over and that's the game

I tried Witcher 2 over the course of at least 5 years and one day it clicked and I loved every second of it. I got a few hours into W3 and I haven't touched it in at least a year. I hear all these good things about the DLC but I don't know if I'll ever actually get there.
 
The last Forza Motorsport, even now when a lot of the issues (and idiotic choices) are fixed. I'm a huge huge fan of the older entries (especially 2-4), but it just feels like a soulless product that wasn't made by people passionate about FM. I gave it another shot this year after they brought back timed events and made them permanent, but I'm just not having fun. Planning to finally return to GT7 over the holiday period instead.
 
For me it's Red Dead Redemption 2, and it's not the game, i have never been a Western movie, book or game fan, always Science Fiction and Fantasy, i got the game 5 years ago, it wouldn't launch on PC at the time for 2 days because of Rockstar's launcher issues, and i have started it twice since, played for an hour each time, then turned it off and never played it again.
 
The Hundred Line – Last Defense Academy

I've played for about six hours, and one of those hours was spent retrying the same battle because I just can't seem to beat it. It's frustrating, because I usually have no trouble with tactical gameplay and I typically play on higher difficulties.

I even looked up the combat tutorial online, but for some reason I still can't get past this encounter. I've tried it multiple times.

It's such a shame, because I was really vibing with the game up until this point.

Red Dead Redemption 2 - Tried multiple times, but after getting to the camp, doing maybe 4 missions or so I have to stop due absolute bordem. Each mission felt like it took about 45 minutes to do and only included going to a town and back.

Any crafting game like Minecraft, No Man's Sky, Long Dark etc I just can't get into them no matter how hard I try. Even the building in Fallout 4 put me off massively, just can't get into it.
It kinda sucks as I probably would like some of them if they clicked. Zone out, gather and collect resources, listen to music or a podcast etc.

Breath of the Wild and by extention Tears of the Kingdom. I have tried several times and I just hate them, I wanted a zelda game instead I got some weird fucking Ubisoft game for the Minecraft generation.

I finished Breath of the Wild but it was the first Zelda I didnt enjoy, and I didnt bother finishing all the areas, I did the Desert and Zora area and then just went and beat Ganon.

Fucking awful game that should be some 7/10 (its polished, to a Nintendo standard) but instead is lauded as the greatest game ever made. Which is weird because I honestly dont get it. Im used to genuinely amazing Nintendo titles being written off as "lol kids game only reason its rated high is because Nintendo" but for me this is generally confusing because the game is just... shit, well crafted but shit and unfun.

I tried both after I got my Switch 2 again with the upgrades, and I still just cant. Its so fucking boring, and a hassle to play.

Tried playing it recently, I played it for an hour and I was still doing the cinematic scripted story/tutorial shit. I'll have to give it another try.
By comparison GTA5 only held you for 10-12 minutes and the world was your oyster.

I freakin' love BotW (TotK is alright). Your problem with the game is probably being a Zelda purist? While me, the unwashed pagan loved screwing around and exploring the world.
Also, once you got out of the cave you're relatively free to screw around, unlike my recent experience being lead by a leash in RDR2.

Yeah, Elden Ring was the only one I got into. That I quite enjoyed, but the rest not so much.
 
Astral Chain. Everybody tells me it's amazing but I couldn't go much longer than rescuing the first civilian (which happens right after the initial chasing scene which I found boring).

I got a bit disappointed because it lacked the variey, depth and polish of Mario games. But it's a fun cutesy little game. It's mostly worth it if you are a big Playstation fan as there are lots and lots of memberberries.

Same. The only one I've been able to get through was SOMA, but it was nerve-racking. I tried Dead Space, but, same as you, I just get too immersed. Being the character in a super scary scenario is much more horrifying than watching someone else in that situation in a movie.

Actually scratch most of that as I don't even want to get into them in the first place besides Marvel Rivals and The Last Descendant which actually looks pretty cool especially Marvel Rivals. My old PC lagging in Marvel Rivals would be another reason.
 
The Zelda games. They're obviously amazing games, but maybe just not for me. My first one was Ocarina of Time on 3DS, followed by Link Between Worlds, also on 3DS. Tried Wind Waker after that and it didn't do anything for me. Twilight Princess on Wii U which is still in the plastic wrapper. Bought a Switch at release and grabbed Breath of the Wild - couldn't get into that either. Out of all of those that I tried, I think Link Between Worlds was the one I got the most enjoyment from. Maybe I'll try that one again in the future.
 
Witcher 3 - boring combat
Elden Ring - might like better on powerful pc
Monster Hunter series - too much fluff, sluggish controls
Silksong - traversing not fun
Deathloop - should love it but don't
Amnesia - can never remember playing
Death Stranding - fun but never return
Holine Miami - not fun but everyone loves it
Metro series - all kinda boring
Nier Automata - kinda like, but kinda boring too

I struggle sticking with these even though they're considered great. Haven't given up though and still try them occasionally hoping one day one might click.
 
As odd as it may sound, Destiny 2. I've played multiple times in the past and liked the gunplay and world structure, but the numerous different systems that are constantly changing with each patch and update, plus the grindy nature turns me off of it. In other words, the three sentence summary is appealing, but the three paragraph explanation is off-putting.
 
Some older games off the top of my head; played em all, but can't say I enjoyed the experience:

Lost Odyssey
Bioshock
Braid
Fez
 
Soulsborne and soulslikes. I love seeing them, but eventually repeated failures in them causes me too much stress and I quit because the process of getting gud becomes too much for me.

Most recently with Unicorn Overlord. It's an enjoyable game that's even easily accessible to strategy noobs like me with really charming graphics on the overland map and menu (don't care much for the more flash looking stuff during combat). Still, not long after starting a fight my eyes just glaze over with boredom from the combat. A shame because there's something good there.

Outer Wilds is another one I keep throwing myself at hoping it clicks that never does.
 
Returnal. I love the atmosphere. I love the combat and feel of the gameplay. I just hate roguelikes. I've tried multiple times to get into it and it just isn't for me. Roguelikes are my kryptonite. They are antithetical to so many things I love in my gaming experiences. If this wasn't a roguelike and it was an action game or an action RPG I'd absolutely love it. But alas.

Not the case. All you really need to memorize is throw/throw break, anti-air (fast counter to jumping attack), punish combo (when opponent whiffs or is at disadvantage), dash in footsie (low starter) into practical combo (best damage combo you can do consistently), combo with overhead/low mixup, and cross up combo (you jump over opponent's head and attack while they adjust changing direction).

The key to defense is usually crouch blocking until they do an overhead that you need to standing block and punish. It is only a matter of time until you learn to do this against all opponents. When you get better timed movement and blocks/parries/reversals can often give you a bigger advantage. For those that dive deep it can provide a lot of entertainment though some releases come with considerable frustration as character control is taken away for prolonged periods of time.

There are two of us... But the game is ruined by those free-to-play modes... They used to use them a lot. I hope they get rid of that thing soon.
 
I've somehow lost to ability to play some horror games. The Bunker would be the one that I'd like to play more, but it shreds my nerves in less than an hour. Getting old I guess.
