What is with women and their need to turn on the heater?

Seriously, if anyone else lives with a woman, is this a problem for you, too? God forbid the outside temp dip below 65, or else RATCHET UP THE HEAT!! She's sneaky about it, too. I'll be asleep at 4am and at 430 I'll awake in a puddle of sweat. I think I'm gonna have to put a shock device on the thermostat...

Turn up the heat even more...maybe she'll start shedding those clothes!

That's like my mom. When ever we start to burn up in the car, my dad goes, "What the hell you got the heat on for?" :lol

Why exactly do you think this is something which applies to all women, and not just your roommate?

I see you're about to get into one of your "DONT GENERALIZE, ASSHOLE" rants. But anyway, all the woman I've been around in my life are like this. From GF's, to my mother, grandmothers, friend's mothers, etc.

If the post offended anyone, please, lighten up.

Why are women always cold?

The medical literature offers more detail, but even the experts don't agree. Leading theories:

Women have a higher ratio of surface to volume than men and thus shed heat faster.

Men have more heat-generating muscle mass.

Women have a higher vasoconstriction threshold temperature.

Women get colder during menstruation.

Those are just the high points....click link for detailed explanation.

I've also found this to be true. Damn cold blooded creatures...

Don't know how many times I've fought the car battle. Flicking that heater on and off is been ongoing with my wife for years now. At times I give up and just plan ahead and wear cooler clothers when I know we're going on a long drive. Damn women...

I have met very few women that wern't like this. Whats even worse is women that radiate heat. As cheesy as it sound I once dated a firey red head that was like trying to sleep with a cast iron stove.

Heh, you obviously have not suffered from the attack of the hot flashes.

The heater is probably the #1 source of consternation in my marriage. She likes to crank it to inferno levels at night; I like the house at sub-zero.

Because it's true. I've never met a woman, from my mom to the girl who works at the Stop n' Sip, that isn't cold ALL THE FUCKING TIME.

Well, my current GF is cold all the time, but I've actually dated some that were HOT all the time. Little did I know at the time that I was dating someone who should have been delivered to a lab for experimentation...

Its true Women and Girlymen like to crank up the heat alot. I personally cant stand it when it gets hot. The wife however cant stand the cold.

It could also be the distribution of heat in general that makes them cold. I've actually talked to women and most seem to realize that their extremities are the places they often feel really cold and that their body usually isn't a massive issue. This is probably due to the fact they can have babies and that the heat focused in their torso is to protect them. Men on the other hand don't have to and traditionally done a lot of things like hunting and building hence their entire bodies have needed heat thus better heat distribution and generation (muscles and etc like the article above points out). It's not my idea but it makes the most sense considering history and biological functions.

My guess would be ratio of muscle mass to skin surface area...although I don't have enough background in biology to provide a rationale. The aforementioned "always hot" girlfriend was about 5'5" and in outstanding shape.

It's because theh HAVE TO KEEP THEIR WOMBS WARM. I'm not bullshitting, either.

I believe this news. I always heard they have to spend more energy trying to keep their wombs warm while men can disperse the energy to their extremities.

It could be that too. However, there's a possibility that regular excerise could cause the body's function to change modes and disperse heat better. Only a guess though. I really would have to look into it =O.

I'm skinny and I don't feel the cold as much as other people....it's a bit strange.

Everyone else will be freezing to death, and i'm quite comfortable. Except my hands though, I have trouble keeping them warm.

Or we just don't care if our extremities are cold because we aren't whiners. Really, if I stop and think about it, my hands are almost always frigid, but I kinda like it.
