What makes Final Fantasy I-II save so quickly?

And why aren't other GBA/DS developers doing it?

I swear, there are games on GBA that save obviously less information than Dawn of Souls, yet they save so much more slowly. Dawn of Souls saves literally instantaneously...as fast as you could blink your eye, and fast enough that a "Saving. Please Wait." screen isn't necessary at all.

So what makes it this way?

P.S.: Dawn of Souls still sucks!

I remember Chrono Trigger saving so fast on SNES that I would often save two or three times in a row just for the sense of security.

*scratches head*

Most GBA games I own save instantly. Pokemon games are the exception.

I don't think ANYTHING saves faster or more efficiently than Fire Emblem, though.

True that, I did as well.

They didn't? I never played SMA and barely touched SMA4. But I don't remember long save times with SMA2 or 3.

I've been replaying Mario and Luigi lately, and I must say it has way too long of a save time. I have time to roll my eyes and huff with every save. :P But that's the longest I've ever encountered on the GBA so far, and with the quality of the game always surpassing my expectations, I really don't ever think about it.

But yeah, FFI+II seems to the fastest of them all so far.

it does save quickly, I've got a more pressing question though, how do youlearn spells ? just use them once and then discard or what ? I'd like to learn more then just 3 right now and I have them all purchased and equiped the book tells me nothing ...

You can use three spells of each level at any one time. (For example, you can use three white Level 1 spells, three white Level 2 spells, three white Level 3 spells, etc.)

ooh, so I can't actually permanantly learn them then. That kind of sucks but makes sence I guess... So you can never actually keep every spell in the game then I guess...

You can't keep all four spells of a certain power level...but usually, there's at least one spell of every power level that's totally useless, anyway. I NEVER had to discard a spell.

GBA save carts come in 2 flavours.

Some come with Flash memory chips for saving and others use the battery system.

I'd guess the battery based carts saves quicker since you basically have an on-board RAM that is backed up by battery power.

Just a guess.
