What proportion of the games that you start do you finish?

To clarify, when I say "start," I don't mean you just download, boot it up to get a taste, then file it away for later play. I mean you go into it with the intention of playing the game, not just demoing or sampling it. I understand this can be tricky in age of GamePass, where people can sample many games at will. Try to focus on games where your intention is to play the game, not just sample it. Maybe limit it to games where you put in at least an hour or two.

And when I say "finish," I mean you complete the last chapter/mission and the credits roll. I don't mean you "finish" in the completionist sense. I'm an SP gamer, so I'm thinking of SP games here. You can't really "finish" most multiplayer-oriented games (e.g., Fortnite, Destiny), so maybe take those games out of the equation and just think about games you can actually finish.

I know that some games are in a sort of limbo, part-finished with an intention to return to eventually and finish it, maybe, if time permits. I understand that those things fog the situation. Don't worry too much about that. I'm just asking for a ballpark estimate.

I'm asking because I'm curious. I have noticed that my patience for games - my willingness to stick with them through to the end - has waned considerably over the years. When I was younger, I would finish almost every game I started. Over the past decade, though, I've become much more willing to just drop a game and move on.

When I'm interested in the game I finish it, so 100% when it comes to this.

But there are many games that I have no intention in finishing with few hours of gameplay (or minutes in some cases).

Voted less than half, i play tons, easily 50+ games/year but finish maybe 10-15 of them, hell i still got 90%+ metacritic score unfinished games from last gen(aka older than 2020), they are amazing but there is time in our lives(im in my 40s) when u got enough money to buy anything u wanna play, both software and hardware wise, but simply ur time is not enough to finish even 80-90/100 metascore games and im not talking all games of those scores, just from ur fav genres u already bought/installed/played and liked, still to play them for few hours vs finish full game which often takes 80h+ its very different story, all those games compete not only for ur money but for ur time too.

Most.

Not necessarily in one set timeframe, but often I'll come back even months later and finish a game.

Of course there's games I start with no intentions of playing much beyond just seeing what the game is and I'm not counting those.

About half. I've been making a conscious effort to finish games before moving on to something else. My mood seems to change every few days so I have to fight against it.

Come to think of it i dont even download most games i buy, i roll credits in roughly around 15% range of those that i start if i were to guess.

The person who has said that Steam is full of people who buy products they dont ever intend to use was right on money.

I am mostly one game at a time person. Either i drop it or finish it.

Haven't dropped too many of them. Did finish a couple I wasn't 100% enjoying. Thats about it.

I'd say most. I usually do quite a bit of research on games before I buy them / start playing them, so I'm usually reasonably sure I'll like something before I start playing it. Sometimes I'll branch off into weird genres or experimental indies that I don't vibe with though.

I platinum 95%, beat 99.5%.
What! Is this serious?

If so GITT!!!

Are you on PSNprofiles? I try and platinum lots of my games but have only just crossed the 50 platinum mark.

Only jesting 😂

Would love to get through my backlog and only buy the very best games these days as I do that and try and get the most bang for my buck.

"Finished". Its purely subjective - I was finished with every game I stopped playing.

So that's 100%.

Unless you want to be specific with your criteria, that's all anyone can say.

I force myself to beat a game before I start a new one. I follow this rule most of the time unless I'm just absolutely miserable playing it.

I quit Death Stranding but I'm going to try it again one day.

Almost all now, as i buy so few in the modern age i make sure i really like and want the game before i buy it, it was the complete opposite years ago, i would buy a lot more back then and didn't finish about half of them.

Finishing is poorly defined. Is playing CIV one game finishing? If so then I probably finished all the strategy games I've played. What about sports games, is one game of NBA2k finishing?

If I make it past the opening hour, I'm very likely to finish the game. I do struggle to get past the opening hour in most games I try. I think the last game I quit after spending a significant amount of time with it was Death Stranding, but I've done that 5 or 6 times with that game.

I used to be a trophy/acheivement whore, but not so much thesedays, so about half. I play what I feel like playing and will stop if I'm not enjoying something. Couldn't care less about achievements the older I get.

Yup. Time > money as you get older. I'd much rather waste money on a game I don't finish than waste time on a game I'm not enjoying.

Almost all of them.
From the top of my head the only 2 games I've dropped this gen were Callisto Protocol and Deathloop (and I played both through a subscription, I didn't buy them). I'm usually pretty good at guessing if something will be for me or not.

Probably around 90%. But I buy stuff in genres I know I enjoy more often than not and only play a few select games per year.

Since last year I started doing one game until finished, so far finished over 50 on Switch (29 this year, gotta update my list) though no platinum shit, no 100%. So far I had dropped only two games (Nights of Azure 2 and God Eater 3) and finished the former a couple of months ago, eventually will return to GE3.

The vast majority, though I have no problem dropping a game I'm not enjoying. I know my taste and typically don't buy games I'm unsure if I'll like, unless they're very cheap. I have amassed a huge backlog so I haven't even played many of the games I bought, and there's a chance I will finish less going forward, but that's fine. I treat it as a library, and most of the games I own are physical and can be resold.

I have to beg off the strategy game question. I've never in my life played a strategy game, so I'm not sure what "playing CIV one game" would amount to. As for sports games, I would assume it would be playing through a season, not just one game.

But as I mentioned with multiplayer games, some games just don't have a "finish." If you can't come up with a reasonable criterion for "finish," then leave those sorts of games out and focus on the ones where the concept of "finishing" makes sense.

As I also mentioned, don't worry about it too much. I'm just looking for a ballpark estimate. If you can't come up with one for whatever reason, that's fine, just skip the poll. It won't fit everyone.

I'm a "vibe gamer", so sometimes I go deep into the rabbit hole of different genres to find games that has the right balance of mechanics, gameplay and presentation. Sometimes I'm not even sure what I'm specifically after in a genre. 🤷‍♂️ Steam's tag system and watching gameplay helps a lot, but I still end up shelving plenty of games after a couple of hours if they don't scratch that itch I'm after.

But usually I come back to them if they impressed me in any way. So I'd say about 50%. Only way for me to reach 100% is if the industry completly implodes as they keep on pumping out games I find interesting.

With that said, I very rarely buy full priced AAA games or Indies/AA above $39. Cheapskate 4 life! 😋

If ine really into a game, I'll complete it no problem. But in recent years I've hardly completed any, even though I've bought quite a few. A lot of them are meant to be AAA highly rated titles, but they don't seem to be doing it for me.
Also, free time seems to be more scarce than ever

I only buy games that I really, really think I will like and I don't use Gamepass or PS+ etc. So I will always finish pretty much every game unless I notice early on that I don't like it. In that case I sell the game and move on.

I don't buy games very often these days..

I'd say I finish 8 games out of every 10 I play. Some I just don't like enough to give them more than 3 hours or, in the case of stuff like Palworld and It Takes Two, my mates and I move on to other games before completing them.

Probably less than half. I'm probably at 66% on games that I like and want to finish. Most games are so mechanically heavy nowadays that if I dont play for a couple of weeks I'm lost when I return to them. Plus past 15 hours any single player game starts to wear thin for me and I'm just praying for it to wrap up soon.

Most.

I don't really juggle multiple games at a time, I play one game and try to finish the story part at least, if not 100%/1000G/Platinum.

I try to finish most of them, but right now I m having a really hard time trying to finish Metaphor, what a boring game, Jesus.

If it's story based then I'll usually finish it if it's good. It's rare that I abandon a game halfway through unless it's some 200+ hour RPG that I grow bored with.

I only finish games I absolutely love, as my time is too valuable and limited to waste it on bad or mediocre experiences.

That being said, I'm super picky and so 99.9% of games I start don't qualify (I buy tons of shit I don't play). Which in turn make up maybe .0000000000000001% of games released.

I feel like my ratio of books, films and music bought to shit I enjoy is a lot higher than with games.

If I commit to a game I finish it so almost all. If it goes on hiatus then I usually circle back at some point. However I have started buying much less titles tbh

Only a handful.

I have this curse where if I stop playing a game for a couple of days I just lose all interest no matter how much I was enjoying myself.

I can spend an entire weekend playing something for 30 hours only to immediately drop it after not having played two days.

I cleared my backlog 2-3 years ago and ever since I've been very selective with my purchases and I don't do impulse buying any more. Therefore my completion rate is 100% these days.

I said Almost all but that's more the older games when I was younger.
Layton Vs Ace Attorney is a very slow work in progress.

Otherwise I finish one before moving to another.
