What to do with old game magazines?

I've got a few apple boxes full of gaming magazines as well as two waist-high stacks of egm/egm2. The boxes have a bunch of back issues for gamepro/nintendo power/ultra gameplayer/game buyer/intelligent gamer/gamefan/next generation, etc.

I hate to just toss them out, but they're taking up space and no one I know around here wants them. But I know if I sell them, it's basically just going to be for the cost of shipping, and I'm a lazy bastard who won't go to the post office just for that. So what should I do?

If you're too lazy to go to the post office, then it's PAPER MACHE TIME!

You could make a scale model of the trojan horse or the boat from Surfside Six

Just save the ones with some really interesting/nostalgic articles in them. That should rid you of about 90% of your collection...

Could you go to the trouble of an exact list?

I could, but it's probably easier for people to ask which ones they need, then I can check and see if I have it.

Less typing for me! I'm lazy, remember =P

If not, I may just huck them.

I'm basically just looking for any issues of EGM before issues #40 to help me complete my collection. Got anything like that?

Not sure which month is #40... from a partial list I made some time ago, here's what is here:

91 may

92 july
nov

93 mar
may
jul
aug
oct

Also: egm completist... do you need variant covers? I've got most of those except for the LotR issue and the VF2 issue.

I need either the Gamefan that had Sonic on a snowboard on the cover or the Gamefan that had Super Street Fighter II Turbo on the cover, pretty sure Akuma was the character they used. If you have either of those I'd buy em from you

How much would you want for all of them?

I'd specicfally be looking for early Next Gen, Nintendo Power 2-6, and egm 2-dec 1990, and the resident Evil issue from 99 or 2000.

But I'd take everything if they're cheap enough.

edit: I don't really care about variant covers personally.

What issues do you have out of EGMs #1-32, 59, 60, 72, 92-94, and 143?

I know someone who would be interested in grabbing those off you if you have some of those.

I just hang onto 'em for when I'm feeling nostalgic. There's nothing more entertaining than looking at old Next Generation mags and seeing them talk about the PS3 being out in 2004. :lol

I would too, but I'm out of space. So they've just been in boxes for a couple of years now. Maybe I'll go through them tonight and make a complete list, just to offload as much as possible before I toss the rest.

I love that some of you are telling him to throw them away while others have already expressed interest in acquiring them.

Throwing them away is a waste; but Ebaying them won't bring much cash. Why not take them to a goodwill or do a homeless guy a favor and provide his mission with some reading material? I ended up giving a lot of my books away to a local school

He's too lazy to go to the post office, so how's he gonna send them? :P

[edit] Belgurdo brings up a good point for once. Why not donate them to a library or something?

The idea of going back and reading old news about games blows my mind. I guess it's because I am completely focused on the future.

I've saved all my mags from the 16-bit gen and earlier (have every EGM, Nintendo Power and Video Games), and tossed everything since except for the original format Next Generations. And even then, it's not like I'm digging out the boxes and leafing through 'em on a weekly basis. Maybe once a year. Tops. Hopefully people will scan these old mags and get 'em into digital circulation, then I won't feel bad about giving 'em away or shitcanning 'em.

I'm the proud owner of every Gamefan from day one, I think I may die with them. I'll throw my girlfriend out first. j/k. :D

NOT!!

There's a lot of magazines in online databases for colleges... escohost or whatever? Not sure how far back they go.

I'd be willing to pay a few bucks for EGM # 29 (Link to the Past cover).

i think i may actually have that issue. but i dont dump my mags...i keep em all for nostalgic purposes

I leave old issues of Next Generation (IMO, the greatest western game mag) that I leave in the bathroom which I read whenever I'm taking a dump. It's good reading old interviews and stuff. It's like "OMG PS1 vs. Saturn vs N64 FIGHT!"

I keep them. I occasionally go out for a search for old cheap magazines for:

A) Old Articles about Sonic the Hedgehog. Usually previews with images that show something different to the final game.

B) Ones with nice artwork which you cannot get anymore, so I can scan it.

I kept all my Gamefans and early 90's EGMs. The rest weren't even worth keeping around. What a bitch that was,I had way too many gaming magazines taking up room in my closet.

I used to have a nearly complete collection of the first 60 issues of Nintendo Power. A lot of them were in good condition, too. I had the Ninja Gaiden 2 guide, the Final Fantasy guide, the Mario Paint guide, the LTTP guide...

Then my basement flooded and they were all ruined.

I had a pretty sizable collection of Next Generation mags that I sold on Ebay for a decent amount.

Actually, there are several issues I need...let me go check and get a list.

Okay, this is what I need to complete my EGM collection...

#1 - #30 (January, 1993)
#33 (April, 1993)
#35 (June, 1993)
#37 (August, 1993)
#40 (November, 1993)
#41 (December, 1993)
#43 (February, 1993)
#44 (March, 1993)
#140 - #151 (March, 2001 to February, 2002)

And of course I'd take any issues that had alternate covers, though I don't know off-hand which issues those would be.

I guess you've never got around to recycling them, eh?

As I've posted in similar topics before, find someone who'll take them in. It's an interesting bit of history for a small percentage of the population, and it's not like they'll be reprinting these old magazines any time soon. Finite like oil, man, and not to be wasted! If you're really too lazy to even mail them off to someone then there's nothing that can be done and mentioning your current ownership of them is a cocktease.

I have a few crates full of game magazines (mostly from 94-98, an interesting period in gaming with the movement from 2D to the 3D era) back home in my mom's attick and I don't know what to do with them. A good chunk of them are UGP (every single issue), Gamefan, and Next-Gen. I have such fond memories of reading through them, with the "excitement" of the daily gaming news/previews/etc we experience nowadays all condensed into monthly issues. I don't think I could ever sell them, as nerdy as that sounds.

I think I'm a tease. I never even got around to opening the boxes tonight.

I still have my old Sega Visions, and most of my old EGM (including the 200 page Ocarina of Time issue, wich I still read :lol) /Gamepros (yeah, I know, I can't beleive I paid for Gamepros either, I was young, dumb, and media starved) and a few PS-era Next-Gens. Packrat=me.
