The question occurs to me since I keep playing "Monday - Paracetamol" and "A Strangely Isolated Place" from Ulrich Schnauss...over and over again. (I'm in an apocalyptically depressed mood at the moment.)

The thing which absolutely kills me in "A Strangely Isolated Place" is when the already intricately layered, treble-heavy synth line gets complimented by a bass-rich counterpoint at 1:07 in...and then, after a brief respite, it returns again -- but with drums -- at 2:37. And then it just GOES.

Anyone who liked M83 who HASN'T picked up the Ulrich Schauss album is crazy. My gosh.

Beatles - You're Gonna Carry That Weight

Made me think of Cowboy Bebop, for one thing. ;) But it's also just an insanely melodic and catchy song...it's as if the whole thing is just one big chorus.

Porcupine Tree - Trains.

It's really rare that I'll listen to a song that I play obsessively over and over again. Even with the above example, it was a case of playing it a few times every day, never in succession though. I have been known to go on band binges though. Obligatory Opeth day is always fun.

Ah, 2 of my favourite from Mr. Schnauss. The latest one that I've been listening to continuously is First Breath After Coma from Explosions in the Sky. It sounds exactly what the title says. A very calming, soothing and happy track.

When I was feeling a bit down a month ago, I played 'Molfsee' from Schnauss' "Far Away Trains Passing by". The heavier bass at 2:59 really got to me. I wouldn't recommend it though. If you're feeling depressed now, this track will only make you feel worse.

Fiona Apple - Oh Sailor
Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc.

I couldn't even tell you how many times I've played these songs. And I'm still not tired of them. :|

Truly obsessive, like half a dozen times in a row everytime I got on the computer for a week listening:

Wrens - 13 Months in 6 Minutes <-- easily one of my most freaky over-played songs of the past decade, this song and 'Happy' just exactly sum up a 2 year period of my life that I can't quite put behind me
Wrens - Happy (actually listened obsessively to this track before getting hooked on 13 Months)
Decemberists - The Tain (parts I-III) Not as much a personal emotional touchstone for me, just a great couple of songs I love to listen to as a group

Now that I think about it, the Wrens "Meadowland" is easily one of my top 3 favourite albums ever - only Moz's "Your Arsenal" and maybe a Smiths album can compare in my mind. It's absolutely scary how much I identify with it.

That song's bridge is up there with my favorite musical moments ever. Perfect.

Anywho:

Missy Elliott - On & On
Billy Corgan - A100
White Stripes - Blue Orchid (grew on me!)
Exploding Hearts - Modern Kicks
Blur - Beetlebum
The Raveonettes - Attack of the Ghost Riders

i'm listening to the ulrich shnauss album as well, though not that in depth. but i've been obsessed with keren ann's nolita recently. but as far as repeating goes, new order's "the perfect kiss"/"guilt is an useless emotion" and franz ferdinand's "love and destroy". everyday from and to work.

You and I! Our tastes are similar! I listened to Meadowlands for about 3 months straight last Summer, and checking my iTunes play count I see that the Decemberists have a handful near the top.

Muse - Time is Running Out

The five leaked Oasis tracks.

Coldplay - Speed of Sound. At first I thought it was average but it seems to get better after every listen.

"true faith" by new order. this morning, actually. it's an astonishing song. but i was playing it over and over for other reasons that i can't really articulate. i had to think about something.

i need to get that ulrich schnauss album. i really like what i've heard of it on the radio.

The last track on the fightclub album, with all of the Tyler Durden snippets of wisdom. I've been on a great nihilistic self-destructive kick here lately.

After watching Jethro Tull at the Isle of Wight on INHD last week I put in Aqualung in the cd player in the car. It's still in there and driving my kids insane.

Lately, it's been Hell Yes and Que onda guero. But before that is Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now, and Ask by the Smiths. Also, the last 1:30 of No. 13 Baby by The Pixies rocks me hard. What a groove.

Edit- ah yes, forgot about Tom Waits - I Don't Wanna Grow Up. oh how i love!

Visit Venus - Planet of the Breaks (Arrival)

i had it bookmarked, played it from the bookmarks, and it played three or so times before i realized i had wiped out my playlist. i didn't really mind though, as i let it play as i slept and into the morning.
